A lot of these issues have to do with the rider riding too fast. Motorcycles are narrower than cars, of course, so their perspective doesn't change to the driver waiting to pull out like a car does (meaning, they don't appear to grow larger as they approach as much as a car does ). So a car driver can't gauge how fast a motorcycle is coming. So truck/car drivers assume you're going the speed limit. When you're going faster than the speed limit, they don't realize it and pull out in front of you. (See FortNine's video about pigeons).

The other lesson Dan gave about being able to accelerate so much during straightaways and being unable to brake / negotiate a corner holds true for ev's too. They are quite quick, but as heavy as a truck, and people treat them like a sports car, but they don't have the experience. Same issue inexperienced bikers get into when they run speeds over 100 on a straightaway before a turn... It's so easy to go fast, but negotiating the turn (or stop) is where you really need practice.

And for sure that saved me today, a lady on a scooter from opposite lane tried to make a turn to my lane, I spotted her, roll off the throttle, begin braking slowly and downshift. Stopped just 3 feet away before crashing. The braking was soo smooth my weight just gradually shifted with no sudden change in mommentum, everything feels firm and confident even in a harzard situation.

The Africa Twin problem is tire related. My AT did the same thing. Tire was balanced perfectly, rim was true, and the axle was properly aligned with the fork tubes. I couldnt figure it out. After i removed the Shinko 705 front and replaced with a Dunlop Mission, no more wobble. Shinko refunded my money and said it was "out of round". Nice QC Shinko. Been buying Shinkos for 15 years. Best overall tires I've ever found. Not at all saying you're "wrong" for your situation. But I guess it just depends on who you are, what kind of bike you have, and how you ride your bike. I ride a heavy cruiser, at or just slightly above the speed limit. No worry about high speed wobbles for me. Shinkos have been great tires at a great value for me personally and have never let me down.

Good tip would be to DO YOUR MAINTENANCE. Everyone want to ride fast but nobody want to spend the money to make sure their bike is roadworthy. Brakes, tires, chain/sprocket, center bearing for the triple tree, fork seals & shocks.. Speed wobble most of the time can be to blame from bad forks, that little bearing in the center, or a worn out damper. How many people out here actually practicing high speed and low speed swerving? or emergency braking?

I started researching how to ride 2 years before I turned 16! Thinking I could buy a motorcycle after I graduated from books to a bike. I turned 16 in March, by June I had a Yamaha twin 100. Passing the test with no wrong answers, and acing Illinois easy driving test! The next 50 years were constant learning! Raced for two seasons and came off at 100mph at the drag strip . Survived with just skin loss on right knee. You offer some products I am considering the booklet especially to help some grey haired guys I ride with, who obviously never learned, or forgot what they may have learned. ✌️

One of the things I've always liked about your channel is that you aren't always on the biker's side. Unlike the videos you review, which often present things as if the motorcyclist is never in the wrong, watching your reviews has helped me realize how often accidents *are* the rider's fault, or where their actions at least play a part. Sometimes it's negligence or stupidity, sometimes it's just "white stage," whatever. Perfect example: The rider at 14:09 who is pissed at the gold Jeep for going at what he says is a "4-way stop" is just flat out wrong. I noticed right away that the Jeep *does not have a stop sign*. Not only that, but as soon as the rider enters the intersection, as they are looking over at the Jeep, you can see a green traffic light pop on! Indicating that traffic in that direction is free to move. It certainly looks like an unusual intersection with stop signs in one direction, and a traffic lights for the other direction, so I understand the rider's confusion. But it doesn't appear to be a 4-way stop like he claims. And that only makes his immature reaction look even worse.

Hey Dan, wonderful video. @4:50 was a similar incident I had. A cyclist was behind a black tinted car. I slowed down for the car guy but he stopped to let me go at a junction. Unfortunately, I see the cyclist only at maybe 10m distance and at that point I started accelerating from 20km/h to 60km/h. No ABS, rear wheel locked in panic. I dropped the vehicle instinctively and kind of jumped away from the bike(also did a summersault because of the pace). It was an almost empty road on a Sunday morning. Glad I did this than hit him T-Bone. He got swooped up of his cycle and landed on my bike. He had minor bruises and that’s it. And I got a new ripped jeans. My bike had some scratches but nothing to worry. His cycle rims were gone. Lessons learned, and started practising the pre-load of the front brakes.

Hello, constructive feedback. I believe that you are missing out on the fact that the first rider applied the brakes while turning. Brakes must be applied in a straight line at all times. Emergency braking procedures can be performed at all times on the roads, even in curbs. However, to brake in a curve requires you to rebalance the bike up right. ty

0:44 Don't do what Dan says which is stay in the middle of the lane. The safest way to approach this corner is to be on the outside right of the lane in position 3. The inside line is also the wrong and slower line and that is ALWAYS how people end up going wide on turns because they turn in too early. The rider in this situation clearly starts turning in way before he can see the actual apex in the turn, this is classic amateur riding and the most common mistake beginners make when taking corners. Turn late so you get maximum visibility , wait for the apex, then engage the corner fully.

After watching a whole lot of these crash videos , i realised people trust stop lights , or have a high expectation of people to follow the rules to the letter. On the road never take anything for granted , people will break rules , knowingly or unknowingly, its better if we always expect them to do so, keep our selves at a safe distance , train our peripheral vision to always look for an exit .
@autonomous2010
@autonomous2010 2 ай бұрын
Yeah... the rules of the road are often treated as a suggestion here. You learn the oddities after a while. Right of way is dependent upon who goes first. Unless everyone is stopped, you can not trust the stoplight color. You can not assume a person turning into traffic will pick any specific lane. In situations of multiple lanes, you can't trust that people will turn one lane at a time. Turns signals (if a person uses them) are not a guarantee that a person is turning. Turns signals (if a person uses them) are not a suggestion. They are a warning. That car is turning regardless of what is there. A person slowing down for a turn is not an indication that they will commit to that turn.

The only rule here is “just don’t hit or get hit” This exact thing has happened to me so many times by bus and other vehicles I always apply progressive braking, I ride a non abs bike so I use engine braking + both brakes to slow me down

I really enjoy your content. Situations and explanations of what to do and not. I am mainly a cyclists and am just starting in the adventure of motorcycles. I purchased my first motorcycle a month or so ago. KLR 650 Adventure abs. I am really seeing how cycling and motorcycle riding go hand in hand. I live in a small town so very noticeable and not a lot of cyclists Over the years of cycling I have made it a point to follow the rules of the road (same as vehicles)being predictable. I used to be yelled at all the time and over time it subsided when the drivers would see me doing this. Most drivers can’t judge speed of another vehicle and misjudge. I ride around 18mph and you don’t know how many drivers pull right out in front of me. So when I read or hear about an accident involving a cyclist especially around an intersection, my thoughts always go to, Did the cyclist run a stop sign or light. I always have people ask how I can ride on the highway. I tell them I’ve almost hit in town more than the highway. I have good road shoulders really no blind spots on the southeast plains of Colorado.

At 13:28. This is pretty common. It is often caused by a difference in the front forks. Pressure, oil etc. If this happens, take it to your shop. It isn't any fun when it happens under hard acceleration, and your are going 80..... And like this video, when slowing down. And usually at the worst possible time. I LOVE this channel.

6:50 he did not lose track because of a bump. He looked back. You can clearly see how his head turns. It is incredibly difficult to maintain a straight path in the motorcycle in a different direction of what you are looking, and this guy just turned slightly which caused the wobble. Lesson: Keep your eyes on the fucking road. If you need to check whether your friend is following you, either stop or buy a mirror.

05:30 Crossing flowing water usually means falling. The ground beneath the water becomes more slippery than ice. A friend of mine drove through a narrow paved water channel in a small town and immediately fell flat on his face with his brand new bike. He was very angry with himself.

Another great vid. The lane fighting vid - I think he was waiting until the last second to see what the car driver was going to do - they are much more likely to panic when they notice the oncoming bike. I would have waited to see what they did first, then moved left. I could see the left was accessible from the moment the incorrectly positioned vehicle came into view so mentally, I would have been ready to shift at the last moment too.

the shaking wheel in a minute 13 is just caused by the luggage at the back of the bike - if the bike has side bags and a top case, the aerodynamics change, so when slowing down, with no throttle, the front wheel starts shaking. The first time when I discovered that, I took all my luggage down and tried the same deceleration - no shaking at all.

The second tip with the Red Tesla you mentioned stick to the middle. No don't stick in the middle the road is bearing towards the left they should have been at least 2 feet or may be 3 feet if possible. on their right but definitely not in the middle. That would have given them a clear view of any hazards coming around the bend the situation with the Tesla would not have developed.

13:11, when I bought my current bike (2001 Suzuki Bandit 600S) I had to rebuild the engine due to a headgasket failure. Due to this, I never looked into the tires on the bike. Turns out there was a flat spot on the front tire which would cause this death wobble tank slapper even at low speeds. Always check your bike and if buying a new one I'd say always replace the tires unless it can be verified they were recently purchased and mounted. Be safe out there everyone.

Most common cause of death wobble is under inflated front tre. This is especially true of long travel front ends as the tire has more leverage over the rest of the bike. Check your air!

For tip 6; yeah the over the top crashes hurt even at lower speeds; I grabbed brake out of muscle memory after bleeding brakes, went up n over but landed more or less feet first; suffered hairline fracture guess it would be higher ankle? torn my shoulder tendon in half (healed up since but can’t lift as much weight as before) and got knocked silly.

Hi Dan. Recently I got into my first crash ever in my life (car or bike) on my 98 Fatboy that my grandpa bought new. And I want to just say a huge thank you for all your videos. Ive been watching your channel and a few others since i got my first bike 3 years ago. No i dont have it on video and when i take the reigns again ill be taking a jacket and some sort of dash or helmet cam. Essentially I was going to work around 4:15 am on US 12 and a ford Bronco pulled out from her driveway about 60 ft in front of me and i was doing 55 about to enter the second turn in the S turn where her driveway is directly at the apex of. I seen her coming out from the trees and let off the gas but the same moment i let off the gas her headlights on the side of the road turned into taillights directly in front of me I killed the back break trying to get slowed down and I the rear end slid out towards traffic the bike then layed over and slid through her mailbox and landed upside down in the ditch. When i felt the foot pad pushing into my boot and seen sparks and i wasn't flying i took my ticket dan and trust fell into the road on my right shoulder and hip side of my body and rolled for what felt like years stopped and i got up to watch this bronco not even up to speed limit proceed around the corner and never come back. I survived guys I have no broken bones and the way my skid starts i think i instantly had the back tire locked up out pure panic so id imagine the slowing down was not very successful and i was going about 30 to 40 when i impacted the ground and again can not be more thankful for your videos because in my opinion i am alive because of them. Keep up the good work Dan and stay safe my fellow riders
