Yeah, those types of silent paw killers appear after you play these types of openings with those pawn structures. Ding managed to force Ian to use time tactics and to not overthink this position.

Anish is actually hilarious, i remember they were talking about the english and london openings, and in such a somber tone he randomly said “the monarchy is coming…” definitely having some kind of flashbacks.

Absolutely love the human analysis. Other people can look at computers and make an analysis without mistakes but I don't think anyone does it as well as demonstrated here.

Rb7 would’ve been dumb because black would just go Qb2 and then getting to check would have taken longer than the d5 move

@@BreakofDawn After d5 black could go Qc2 then Qc8 removing any mate threat, so Rb7 is faster. Anish also saw this during live commentary. By the way Rb7 is Stockfish's top move , so saying that Rb7 is dumb tells a lot.

Yeah but that line also neuters black. Rook having to try to defend vs 2 passed pawns while a queen is blocking yours is pretty bad.

Yeah I find that hilarious when the evaluation of the two moves is basically the same. Admittedly after d5 it would be harder to play against an engine.

I remember Magnus commentating on one of Jan's games last year and him saying : "yea as usual Jan plays bad moves quickly", I thought it offensive at the time but seems Magnus knows what he's talking about

Hikaru! I love how you greet and say goodbye with a big smile! You talked about Nepo playing fast on this game and game 3, but he also played really fast on game 5, the main difference could be that he was playing white and studied all the moves he should be doing?

@@tonyb9735 the only reason this is even close is because Ding got fucked over my a pandemic harder than any chess player alive. Before the pandemic he was very clearly stronger than Ian. So yes from a chess point of view he should win because he should have been better and if he loses it’s because of unlucky outside influence. And in that time he has been screwed over and was forced to play at night in full lockdown and horrible conditions etc he has been through so much more than Ian so from that side he also deserves it way more.

@@nexesses1548 Meh. My heart bleeds for him. Not. Lockdown is ancient history, and it wasn't great for anybody. There is no luck on a chess board. If Ding beats Ian, then - and only then - would he deserve to win the world title. If, as you say, Ding is "very clearly stronger than Ian" then that shouldn't be a problem, right? FWIW I am cheering for Ding. I think it will be close, but I suspect that Ian will make too many unforced errors under pressure.

I have to admit I was not looking forward to this match in particular, but hats off to both players. The near absence of draws has really made this a roller coaster ride that is a load of fun.

It makes you happy that a super GM like Hikaru and 3rd place candidate in the candidates tournament is streaming and explaining and commenting on world championship matches. It's actually a privilege never achieved before for the viewer and impose big respect for the status lf Hikaru. I love so much the channel of agadmator and love his efforts and analysis since he uses engines also, but really watching side comments and explanation of someone like hikaru is something off the charts especially that he also does the job well as a speaker. Chapeau for that channel Hikaru. You deserve the best.
