I've noticed when Shuichi shares a deep bond with people (like with kaito, and obviously, Kaede), he always talks about just how glad he is to have met them, and he gets a yellow word at their graduation. He talks about "how they don't need words" and then for Kaito, he said "something about their bond' being a "special something", and Kaede he's talking about his future and "spending every second of it with you", which is, very obviously, the most romantic thing he said to everyone. Kaito, he doesn't say anything that really suggests they're ever going to talk again, other than how he'll "always be his sidekick". It's probably because Kaito would be training for space, and he wouldn't really have time to see Shuichi again. Anyway, this is just to say, that Kaede and Kaito are both super important to Shuichi.
