Sonia does have her flaws she can be naive and her treatment of Kazuichi is not always the most positive though it's understandable sometimes do to the fact Kazuichi is a pervert and how obsessed he is about her to the point it's creepy. Though wishing him to die is pretty far out there and to some people mean. Does anyone here think that Sonia is based off western otakus ? I say this because from what I've read about on wikis and from Lets Plays.Here are my reasons as to why I think Sonia might be a parody based off western otakus:1. Whenever she talks about her country's culture it usually refers to anime and manga. One example being that the vast majority of the citizens there are anime and manga fans and that mangaka hunting is strictly illegal.2. She has a great fascination for Japanese culture. The unique about her is that she not only does she enjoy Japanese cartoons and comic books but also other forms of entertainment like soap operas. Also from Dangan Ronpa wiki or her game profile it is said that she knows more about Japanese culture than the average Japanese citizen. There are different types of otakus. There are military, music, fashion, government, history and otakus that exist as well and Sonia seems to fit in many of those categories. 3. The fact that she is from a wealthy background lead me to assume that the creators have an idea of what mainly composes an otaku. She white girl from a rich background which makes think that maybe it could be a reference to how some otakus are white and come well to do families, since I'm assuming that a trip and stay to Japan is expensive and those anime figurines are anything but cheap. She has a healthy love for Japanese culture all while staying mentally rounded with her surroundings.

Sonia may not be my favorite character, but I still do love her and she deserves so much better than the fandom treats her. People tend to only fixate of her relationships with the men at best, and at worst they say that she should have died to give one of said men character development. Look, Hiyoko is one of my favorite dr characters so I understand some people wanting to have her take someone else's place, but the fact that Sonia is the most common choice sucks. Like, if you don't like the lack of effort put into her writing that's fine, but dont say that she has no purpose and nothing going for her. Let's not forget that she lost gundham, and let's also not forget case 5 where she desperately tries to defend Chiaki. And dont go saying Akane should have died either, she lost Nekomaru and is just generally a way more interesting character than people give her credit for. Honestly, the only survivor who genuinely has very little going for them is Kazuichi, and while I honestly do adore him, it's weird to me that hes not the first pick for sacrifice. I mean, I know exactly why, misogyny, but still.
