Au where Danganronpa goes full Hunger Games and makes the survivors participate in another killing game.
9/9/2020 update: Guys,,,this isn't real. I never said it was real. It's literally just an au I made for funsies once well over a year ago. Please for the love of god stop taking it so seriously. I'm sorry I killed Makoto. Okay I'm sorry I get you like him or whatever. But guess what! He's not actually dead! And Hagakure has died in all of the Danganronpa demos. Killing him was just a homage to that. Makoto is literally implied to be the killer in the v3 demo and has a canon execution. It was a silly little easter egg that I never expected to get death threats over but here we are. This isn't canon. Please stop acting like it is. This edit is the reason why I don't like Danganronpa anymore. So uh thanks for bullying me out of the fandom and leading me to hate it over some silly edit I made for my own enjoyment. But hey, gotta defend your husbando, right?

I picture the motive to be similar to the First Blood Perk from V3 except if you kill someone and come forward, you will be executed for everybody else's freedom. The motive would apply to a few good people in the fourteen members of the cast such as Makoto(especially), Aoi, etc. Makoto intended to take the bullet for everybody, because he knows how much the survivors have gone through cause of the killing game. I think he murdered Hakagure, in particular, because he doesn't seem as close to anybody there. He ends up stabbing Hakagure in torso as Leon did to Sayaka. Maybe, he ends up falling or hitting his head and not remember that he is the culprit. This would explain why his excuse is "I didn't do it!" cause he doesn't recall killing one of his classmates. He also doesn't come forward as well. To add spice, our protagonist is Kyoko and she is the one who has to bring up the truth that thier beloved Makoto murdered Hakagure. (I got the idea of Kyoko being the protagonist from on of the top comments)

Instead of debating if Makoto would be a killer, I have a good motive as to WHY he’d be a killer. Hiro predicts there’s going to be a murder soon so he grabs all the possible dangerous items in the school and hides them in his bathroom. He writes a letter to Makoto telling him to meet his dorm because he doesn’t know what to do with the items and trusts Makoto with the information. Unfortunately Makoto sees EVERYTHING hidden before Hiro even gets to tell him about it and out of fear ends up killing him quickly thinking he was gonna be the first dead.

What he did in the game was actually a pretty smart move. Notice how almost every character had some sort of connection to each other (Like Chihiro, mondo,and ishimaru were best friends etc.) but then Hagekure didnt have a connection of some sort to anyone. What he did was basically he didnt become close to anyone so no one would kill him for a reason. He also pretended to be dumb in class trials so no one would really pay any close attention to him. This is why he's my favorite character, even tho this made him a easy victim, it was still a pretty smart strategy

Makoto killing Yasuhiro is actually an easter egg in the demo of DRV3 of Hiro being killed in Kaede's shower. The evidence points to Makoto but the culprit wasn't revealed. Yasuhiro's death was also included in the Japanese-only DRV1 demo where Hifumi killed him. Hifumi even had his execution that was showed in the demo.

I can see this working as like a "challenge mode" scenario where the main characters have to work to stop anyone from killing even when times get desperate - something that maybe even puts more focus on "free time" segments and you have to figure out the right things to do to get the best ending where no one dies. Otherwise, I think this kind of scenario would be just too bleak.
