I've often wondered about that one too. I imagine when they want to look behind them they just shut their eyes and shift their face to the other end by force of will... You can't help but think Boco, Bear and Daisy have the same trait...

I uses to think that the engines had two faces because when the engines are going downhill, the face looks out for them. Also I used to think that the faces had a mind of their own and that the engines could talk to them.

I have made an observation. In the beginning, the narrator says that Donald brought Culdee home. But if you look closley at "Donald", look at his tender. The number says 10. So, the engine in the illustration is Douglas.

@@liamwatson5125 Edward was still blue in the Railway Series too I don't know why they decided to change their colours when they made the TV Adaptations It's kind of like in the original version of Edward, Gordon & Henry at the end of the book Henry also gets painted blue but at the end of the episode made for TV it just has the three of them going back to the sheds
