14 minutes of in depth explanations and instructions on the dark art (read: hard damn work) that is paint removal.
All presented to you in Swenglish by yours truly.
This one really is for the nerds, lots of talking and little action. But if you're going to spend 20 hours with knifes on your expensive bikes I figured it could be worth learning all the details just to be on the safe side. And since I've been asked about it a hundred times I hope that many of you enjoy it either way.
DISCLAIMERS:
- I take no responsibility for any failed attempts.
- I have no education on the subject, it's all experience and broscience.
- This is just one of several possible methods.
- Yes, I know about Carbolift (results seem to vary so I go old school).
- This procedure always voids all warranties and is potentially dangerous.
- SCOTT Sports (or any other manufacturer) does not encourage or approve of this, you attempt it 100% at your own risk and responsibility.

I love your rules. Thank you for being honest and not lying and making it look easy. You've convinced me not to paint my carbon car part, and probably saved me from destroying it. Thank you very much!

I have done this once on an old road bike frame. I can confirm that it's an enormous shitload of work. I did succeed eventually only to fuck up the paint job afterwards. I then gave it to a professional paint shop who had to sand it down all over again and put on a proper paint job. The bike is now back on the road and looks beautiful. I gave it to a friend of mine. But I'm not sure I'm ever going to do this again.

Great video man, thanks. I have an old cervelo soloist road frame that I used to race that I'm thinking about stripping and painting this summer. I'd be interested in any more videos like this, perhaps how you applied the decals to your Scott RC or how you apply the wax/clear coat? Anyway, I appreciate the ethos, approach and video production, cheers from Scotland!

For God's sake, don't do it mechanically because you'll also strip the carbon. This is carried out with the help of chemistry. Greetings

take his advice seriously: DON'T DO IT! never sand down to raw carbon! you will remove carbon material, especially on edges you will in no time sand through whole layers of carbon. I tried it. Don't waste your time and destroy your frame

Nice! Is the method similar for an aluminum framed bike? I’ve always wanted to do a custom paint job on my old hardtail but have never had a clue how to do it properly so I just left it. I look forward to more of your videos!

For aluminium bikes you should use paint stripper. Doesn´t ruin your frame and it is infinitely much more easy. (Aluminium does not get hurt, while resin does)

My favorite is Morakniv Robust, it has a very thick blade that causes much less vibration than most other knifes. Other than that it comes down a lot to just preference and what you have available, once you start working you'll get a feel for what works best for you.

Wouldn't scraping the fiber ruin the integrity of the material and make it dangerous to ride? I've seen people sand blast it with ease and a cleaner finish. You look like Jack Dorsey, the owner of Twitter. Haha!
