This must be the silliest video on youtube! Some people will just complain about anything..way of the world I guess.

sorry mean . I have the same but 2011.... i took the time to see your video. but i really cannot see the fault. please elaborate your claim

The vehicle locked itself with the keys inside. It is not meant to be able to do this. The door was closed without pressing the locking button on the handle. And it self-locked. With a child trapped inside. The design of the car is meant to detect if keys are inside and prevent you from being able to lock the door. In this case, it went the opposite way and rather than preventing locking, it locked itself. The video demonstrated what it is SUPPOSED to do. I could not get it to replicate the fault that was witnessed by several police officers.

Why is that a fault ? You need the keys to lock it ?

I don't see the issue. My 2010 Sport has the same thing and I've never had an issue with it. In fact, I think it's better than my 2016 Impala LTZ in terms of ways of locking.

Well on my 1997 range rover ,, I had a dead battery ,,unlock the door with the key and unlock the hood,, put the key in the ignition,,, close the door,,,OPPS,,,$@&@&(,,, put jumper cables to battery ,, Doors locked now what do I do ????

Couldn't you just lock it with the button or the key near you when outside the car? I don't get the issue.

Craig Moore Unfortunately not - when all keys are inside the car and the ignition is off, it is designed not to lock (and for obvious reasons). If you close the door and try to lock using the door handle button on the outside, it beeps twice at you and will not lock, reminding you that you are trying to lock your keys in the car. Similarly, the boot lid will not lock if the ignition is off and you put your keys into the boot. It's a clever idea. In this case, however, the ignition was off and our child had just been placed into the back seat. The door was closed by my wife (the keys were in her bag sitting on the floor between the front and rear seats). She did not try to lock the door from the outside obviously so did not press the door button. But the car decided to lock itself anyway, with the keys inside. Effectively ignoring its own controls. There were seven police witnesses to the incident and they offered to write a statement witnessing the extent of the fault so it was not some imagined issue. But of course Jaguar LR will deny it - to admit there is a fault would lead to a massive vehicle recall and they don't do that kind of thing lightly. They checked that no fault registered on the car's computer (why would it?) and that was that. It's dangerous because the car can malfunction and lock your young children inside. The windows are toughened glass, so even a police baton could not crack them. It took a hammer to get in and out child's face was sprayed with exploding glass as a result.

The answer is not to have kids in the first place if you don't know how to look after them.

lock the doors use the remote to only unlock the tailgate put the keys in the trunk and close the tailgate I bet it will look then
@matthewjerram6 жыл бұрын
repoconn Interestingly, no, it does not. The vehicle identifies that the keys are inside and the boot pops open with a beep, every time. The issue with the keys inside the car can’t seem to be replicated, indicating a one-off fault. But 8 police officers couldn’t work out a way around it and had to smash a window to access. And it is funny how people think it is a trivial matter to complain about: try having your kid locked in a car due to a technical problem with the vehicle and having to call emergency services. The media seemed to capitalise on it...

That for idiots who lock the keys in the car, in fact just using the door lock on the handle will not arm the rest of the security and Immobiliser, using the keys fob will
@matthewjerram6 жыл бұрын
Darren Jones No. That is incorrect. The handles can fully arm the security.

Pressure sensors in the seats, same as when passengers don't fasten their seat belts. Your wife must have touched the button on the door handle when closing the door? The weight of the child in the seat activates the sensors??? Just a thought.
@matthewjerram7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul - that's an interesting view. There are pressure sensors on the seats but if the rear seats activate this function, that to me is rather dangerous as it does allow you to easily and unsafely lock a child in the vehicle. Pressure sensors on the driver's seat make sense but why elsewhere? There's an argument that a passenger sitting in the car may want to lock themselves in for safety but this is arguably outweighed by the risk of inadvertently locking a child in the car or having a child take the keys and lock themselves in with no way for the parent to override. In this instance, the vehicle should be smart enough to know that on the seat in question, an isofix car seat was attached and therefore, the pressure sensors on that seat should be disabled. Either way, it highlights a possible design concern.

@@matthewjerram I know this is an old thread, but I came across it looking for information on double locking. I think you proved the above comment possible at 1:05 in the video where you sat in the back seat and locked the doors while the remote was inside. (locking did not work when the remote was inside with the seats empty)
@matthewjerram4 жыл бұрын
Michael Stroh - interesting you should raise it. Because only just yesterday, some 5 years after this incident, the root cause of the problem was found. And it is a well known fault by JLR. The door locking mechanism on these vehicles is prone to failure. It will not show up in the faults logged by the onboard computer and it can result in either erratic locking (as happened in this video) or complete failure to lock. The former is where it can be dangerous. JLR’s response that it was not their issue because nothing showed in the error logs, completely glosses over the root cause that in my view, they should know better about (since the insurer said they receive loads of feedback from customers about this problem). So just be aware and make sure the locks are properly checked if you own one.
