Curtis is so confident in his work, he doesn't care if you watch. Though I agree it can be distracting. He wasn't going to answer the same question 3 times. I think was a language barrier. They come to our country and don't have the respect to learn our language.

You are going to see snow, more than you think. I bet we got 10 inches where I am. That spark was scary, been there. You mess with wiring so much that it's easy to forget to cut power. I have never been shocked by 220, but 110 taught me a lesson when I was a young man. Good video

They use road salt and brine here in up state GA. But only once or twice a winter. In trouble areas around the mountains where seeping water or poor drainage on the roads is a thing prone to icing, road salt is used quite a bit in winter for those cases here too.

For your safety: Step 1) Turn power off, and verify that it is REALLY off! Step 2) Disconnect wires. EDIT: add the important verify part!

Never trust a disconnect, got myself shocked on a unit that had a broken breaker, checked L1 and L2 had no volts but it was still sending 1 leg of power through the breaker and didn’t check L1 and L2 to ground. For some reason when I put my screw driver to discharge the capacitor it didn’t spark but I knew immediately when I grabbed that wire… it was still hot lol

It appears it had a two pole contactor with the fan common on the line side of the contactor. This arrangement is to prevent a loud compressor clunk on shutdown. It ensures the compressor and fan hots are not in parallel with the contactor open. When electrically in parallel at shutdown a freewheeling fan motor can generate back emf and drive the compressor causing the shutdown clunk.

I have a love-hate relationship with electricity. My worst mistakes are often while switching power off and on repeatedly in order to diagnose something. Forget just once and ZAP! We had 12" of snow. Shut us down for a few days. Very few plows around. "Maybe snow today." "Yeah, why don't you go inside and check the forecast!"

I was stationed at MCLB Albany, GA during that time of 2012, and that snow they got SHUT DOWN the entire city and towns. I'm from Wisconsin and was on Active Duty. I spent most of my time in Albany, but also Lee Country and Leesburg. Yeah, one half inch of snow in Georgia is funny to me with the reactions of the everyone from there, lol. My brother-In-Law just moved from Wisconsin to the outer Atlanta Metro area four years ago, and just this last snow you all got down there (AGAIN) SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE CITY AND MUNICIPALITIES. That was the funniest thing to me (and my brother-in-law).

A defrost question if I may: When defrost mode kicks in the reversing valve switches and refrigerant flow is back to normal AC cooling. My question: Is everything the same as when it’s in normal AC mode with the exception of the heating elements are now active? In other words, is the blower fan pulling/pushing through the evaporator coil then through the heating elements?

No, and yes. Everything is normal except the condenser fan motor stops, and elec heat is energized

Early store closings, no schools, etc. We got snow last night, but it didn't keep this old geezer from doing my 2 mile walk routine this morning. Curtis where I am at in Southwest Michigan. I’m about one hour east of Lake Michigan today. We do not have a temperature that meaning it is 0° outside with the real peel of 17 below zero I have two HVAC guys and they have been averaging between 30 to 35 calls per week So I have been helping them out …..And we have been putting in 3 to 4 new units per week for the past six weeks….. up here in the cold weather we gear up in Carhartt coats and pants…. I believe I would have edited out that stupid mistake. I always check L1 to L2, L1 to ground, and L2 to ground with my meter after killing power and before handling any wires. That would have reminded you to shut off the breaker if you would have just checked with your meter. I’ve been shocked because of a bypassed disconnect switch and ever since then I’ve always checked, even if the unit shuts off when I pull the disconnect or shut off the breaker. It takes a few seconds and can save your life.

Please no newbie Tech ever use the front of your impact to push on a coil pack using non-insulating or any other kind of metal. Use insulated screwdriver or plastic or wood to tap on it or if you're okay with doing so you could tap it with your finger on the top but the potential chance for that drill metal to Arc across by slipping was pretty big there

The unit was running "even when there was no call" due to a stuck contactor. Now with a new contactor and power on, the unit is off when there is no call.

It's working. When Curtis said it's not running he meant that the replacement contactor had fixed the problem with the previous contactor being stuck closed causing it to run continuously.

Without a functioning atmosphere, Earth turns into Venus...last time I checked, no one is living on Venus. The vast majority of people have no idea how we are able to live on this planet and what had to happen to become a inhabital planet. Think about how much crap in just the last 150 years has been ejected into the atmosphere in the "modern" era compounded by a population explosion...that's alot of damage in such a short period of time, considering how old the earth is. The earth has frozen over a couple times already from meteor impacts and the debris blocked out the Sun...you disrupt the atmosphere, man made or otherwise...bad things happen! Solar radiation bombards this planet everyday and the ozone layer is all we got from getting cooked.
