I've been accused of being arrogant for showing confidence around insecure people. It took a long time for me to gain that confidence in the areas I've mastered. I don't say things like I'm better than. It's almost like I'm not allowed to be self-assured around certain people.
@TherapistTamaraHill16 күн бұрын
Totally get that. This is a good point. Insecure people or those who are jealous will you will not "permit" to be proud of yourself because it automatically says something about them. That's not your problem as long as you are not boastful and disregarding of others. You are allowed to be confidant and proud of you.

I had a friend who was arrogant because she just obtained a Masters degree. She was very arrogant about it because I just had a two year degree. And she had a 4.0. But, she avoided math and science courses because they were "too hard". My education is strictly math and science. Pretty sure that got under her skin. Competitive. The operative word here is HAD. We got into a discussion about science and of course she knew everything. I'd already moved away so all I needed to do was block her.

I’ve been called grandiose by someone who belittles all my achievements in education, competitive sport and some specific systems I mastered with diligent long term study. I’m neurodivergent and only comment on things I feel I’m an expert in. I had my ideas taken throughout my life and I was never benefiting. So now I keep to myself. I was very naive, trusting and open with sharing my knowledge. Learned the hard way.

Does permissive parenting fall under this? Some I belive do. Arrogant parents who let their children act disrespectful/annoying are the worst style of parent in conjunction with the abusive or neglectful style of parenting i think. I get kids play loud, but boys who yell and girls who scream make me wonder..it is an extension if homelife and or unmet needs as they grow. A cry for help of bratty spoiled kids with arrogant selfish parents that cannot be bothered with understanding or teaching thier child manners or emotional regulation by example; neither which I believe the parents of such children fathom or possess. Tired of the statement: "They"re just kids playing" uh, yeah to a point yes i get, but lax parenting produces bratty kids for the most part i think.

Interesting point. Thx. Some parents belittle their kids for a variety of invalid reasons. Some, seeing their kids as reflections or extensions of themselves, polish 'em up like little trophies to impress all audiences, especially other parents who may or may not be aware of the competition they're in. These kids can certainly grow up with warped impression of their pace in Society. But You hit on a real good one: No one else in the world matters. The kids pick up on snd absorb that. Excellent contribution! Thx! 🎼TD

I whish you would do podcast on Corporate Work Environment and how that affects you as a human being. You need to talk about the toxicity of the workplace -----especially corporate America. It's like they all read the same books...."The 48 Rules of Power" (for example)....and they strut around with their well crafted Machinations.....to self promote. It is sickening to watch. The same shit heads carry that Corporate Cock attitude into their private lives. At parties, they will never speak openly and freely or ungraded; with every word, every sentence being crafted / calculated to compete with everyone in the room. Even the young turds just showing up in the industry soon adopt this Dog-eat-Dog mentality.

Yes, I could see arrogance if your talking to others about facts but if your talking opinions it's a fine line between advocating your opinion over others opinions vs others insecurities and the value your/their opinion may hold from trust.

I have trouble with over sharing, alongside of poor judgement of character. Evidently those can be some symptom of PTSD . Ive even messed up with this, a number of times too, even within family which was the hardest learning curve of all to accept. Even when just sharing an opinion of my own, openly. This practice can backfire. Even family may attempt to run you in, and attempt to do you over?. For a sense revenge, or for whatever else it is that rocks their boat. I find it hard to understand why

I usually run over here because i want to learn how to deal with others who have negative personalities and psychological states. But I ran to this one because I am the arrogant one, to the T. I've never bothered to address it because I know I had nothing else to defend my soft parts with, so I decided the arrogance was the lesser evil I could live with. The irony of using such a tool because of being surrounded by unapologetic narcissists and arrogants, and just trying to survive- emotionally and psychologically. Meh.

What happens when confidence is confused with arrogance? people do what they can to break the confident person would even steal everything they could would even keep them from eating to bring them to their level lol speaking from experience
@TherapistTamaraHill16 күн бұрын
Oh yes, great question!! I think it's quite clear when someone is being arrogant (haughty, disregarding, uncaring, cruel, insensitive, and self-centered) vs. being confident (i.e., positive about one's abilites, kind, helpful to others, caring, optimistic, hopeful, and self-assured). There is a bad "feeling" that you can get when you are around an arrogant person who boasts rather than just someone who is confident and self-assured. The confident person never wants to harm anyone else in any way. Their goal is to GET BETTER within themselves and not to GET OVER on other people.
@jefecerebro871116 күн бұрын
@TherapistTamaraHill Idk I think people sometimes can see someone practicing SELF-preservation and confuse it for self centered behavior... Or we see people in certain professions and they may feel like they're the best at what they do and should.. . kind of like hip-hop when it first started that was the culture to strive to be, and feel like you're the best, but now you have a whole new train of thought that invaded that space with an all inclusive attitude if that makes sense. For example DJs used to hide their records so nobody would use the same break in a record... Now if you don't show someone YOUR process (aka IP, TRADE SECRETS) your a hater or you're "gatekeeping" . But hey idk anything but I do feel that the world is way too sensitive and insecure at the same time... People are being exiled because people won't let others use them or mistreat them... It's a really bad Psy-Op

I feel like everybody "knows" everything now-a-days. Its a lot of information out there now. The amount of information consumed could definitely bring forth arrogant personality traits; the know it all personality. Everybody's a star. The ability to control perhaps these developing personality traits is important. Confidence, however, is often frowned upon and mischaracterized as arrogance. To differentiate between the two is a great skill.
@TherapistTamaraHill16 күн бұрын
That's an interesting perspective for sure. With Google and now AI, that doesn't surprise me at all. And differentiation is major. We do have to be able to see (and help others see) the difference between confidence and arrogance. I think naturally, as intuitive humans, we just know!

self censorship is rising evidently. Due to bullies. Arrogant people perhaps. Google, Self-Censorship is Rising, @SabineHossenfelder if you'd like to see what she said about it. I'm not one bit surprised. People have become so toxic they cannot stand to see someone hold a different opinion. Even at political rally's they'll need to get angry and throw the dollies out of the pram like children, and toss someone outside, rather than to calm down, listen to each other even if they disagree, so as to act more like adults
