What a contrast. On the left you have a guard who is alert and keenly aware of everything that is happening around him, while the guard on the right seems to have a vision problem since he can't see what's happening only a few feet away. A blythe Yule and happy Hogmanay!

The public is asking, are the Mounted Guards allowed to take money from tourists? The answer is Yes, according to the Army! Since tourists are granted free access at Horse Guards, then they must show at least as a token of appreciation in return, in the form of cash or in kind. You can make donations to the Household Cavalry Foundation & the Horse Trust but if the tourists decided to give monies or gifts directly to the Guards, SO BE IT! Nevertheless, the Army have no reservations about it. The Mounted Guards or Boxmen have the hardest role at Horse Guards. They are responsible for the security & welfare of the military horses posted at the sentry boxes and the people around them. It’s only fair as they are worthy of appreciation & respect!

You make it sound like tips as though they were waiters . They , like doctors or police cannot except money from people. They may have a fund box that collects money for a particular charity that relates to their job .

@@Hava744 Since the main function of the horse guards presently seems to be to entertain the visitors, perhaps the guards could imitate the RCMP and become Singing Mounties while on shift like Nelson Eddy et al. in "Rose Marie". Then they could qualify as real buskers and set up tip jars. Might even lead to a new TV series "Horse Guards's Got Talent." LOL

The troopers who do NOT follow the new rules let the side DOWN. They will have to learn how to voice authority or else they will never climb the ladder to higher grades. They will fall by the wayside because they cannot give ORDERS.

Why do people say Xmas. Why do people take Christ out of Christmas. People don't realize Christmas is about Jesus. The x means that your exiting Jesus our of everything that stands Christmas. This is the problem in the world the devil trys to take every thing about Jesus out of our schools hospitals nursing homes government. I see so many people xing Christ out of there everyday life.
