It can get cold enough that the sap in trees expands enough to explode them. It might be possible for them to explode if the sap boils, but I imagine there wouldn't be much of the tree left due to the inferno.

Well.. In games and books.. For the most part.. Wizards can not wear armor since it makes it too hard for them to move around.. Wizards are in general not that strong physically.. So that alone causes problems.. But also in most books and games they always explain it as it interfering with being able to move around as a large portion of magic requires wide and more complex movements of arms. Something that does get a bit restricted when wearing armor. ( Something that is true in real life.. Kinda hard to do a lot of different dances in full plate armor ya know? ) Oh and.. Anyone who has put on real full plate armor.. Will tell you.. That stuff is heavy.. The people who wore it in combat ALL had to be very strong basically.. Also.. During the early part of Full Plate being used ( 14th Century or so ) another layer of padded armor was used under the plate. ( Later on. Full Plate armor was made to lock into place and absorb hits better.. Much, much better. The use of padded armor underneath for the most part was no longer a thing. Of course some stuff was worn under but nothing like actual armor anymore. )
