You should start with the long build, as a way to build anticipation of what you're really working toward. Then, you've got the short build and you are encouraged to make it as good as you can, rather than just getting it done quick. Also, since you still had 20 minutes left, I think it would have been fair to give yourself a 10 minute timer when you had to go back to the store any way to get a bed.
