A Week of Wildlife Photography on Skomer Island: Puffins, Manx shearwater!

Skomer Island is home to 26,000 Puffins and 300,000 breeding pairs of Manx shearwater in the Summer, and I recently lived on the island for a week!

Skomer Island is lovingly managed by The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales who work tirelessly to monitor and maintain the habitat on Skomer Island. The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales are a small, independent charity working hard towards the management and conservation of our precious wild places in Wales.

If you have ever visited Skomer, you will know how vital Trundle, the hard working tractor is. Without Trundle, life on the island would be difficult. Getting luggage on to the island is no easy task, but 17 years Trundle has been on hand. But, it’s becoming all too frequent that wardens are having to wheelbarrow luggage as Trundle struggles. I live in Switzerland, but lived in Cardiff during my PhD. Being a bird's fan Skomer was my personal highlight of visiting birds (that must have been around 2005). There's nothing like this little island. You bring back quite some merories to me.

When I was a teenager we stayed in Pembroke and spent a magical day on Skomer with the Puffin's. Wonderful to see it again. It was the beginning of my love affair with Puffin's. Lovely film

Ravens, Carrion Crow, Great Black-backed, Lesser Black-backed and Herring Gulls, Short-eared Owl plus visits from Peregrine and Buzzards. No mammalian predators

Great video Danielle, very informative and comical in places, nice choice of music and clips. I have thought about doing bts videos, but I'm too camera shy and think I could be quite boring. What camera set up did you use for vlogging the trip if I may ask, as I have a 700D as extra camera. carrying 2 large dslrs can be a bit tricky haha.

Thanks so much Sam! I tried to make it humorous but it was hard not to seem real cringy haha. I used my Iphone for vlogging. All the the non wildlife clips are filmed on my phone! As long as you have a good story, you don't need lots of fancy gear!
