Thankfully you all are safe. Im glad you got a bunch of nice cops dealing with this situation. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing and cleaning up our waterways.

In that situation, there's really no point in being good or bad in terms of law enforcement or civilian. It's a real threat. So instead of sitting there with a bit of uncertainty that you may not be going home that evening and being a complete d*ck about it, you might as well keep it cordial and civil, am I right? It's kind of like having a wasp nest on the ground at a park. No need to be a pri*k and shove people towards it to piss off the wasps. You might as well be cordial to everyone else watching the experts do their job.

I once spoke to a police detective, and he told me a true fact that he has done for years wherever he was stationed. Whenever they call in the bomb squad, especially if they have to send them out in full gear like here, he would always get their names and after the job was done take them out to a steak dinner. Every time. And for the simple reason of “You have to respect the size of the balls on someone who every day walks up and messes with something that if they’re lucky will reduce them to a stain on the floor.”
@danidipАй бұрын
Sadly bomb squad didn't even get a chance to talk to us in this case. They had a live bomb they had to worry about.
@lorienray6216Ай бұрын
These police were excellent, handled all of you with respect and vice versa, they were very professional, hats off to the officer handling that bomb, not a job I would want, much respect to him.
@Smilodon1985Ай бұрын
What you might call the thing you pulled up, rather than a mortar, is an artillery round. The thing on the nose is the fuze (spelled with a "z"). Artillery rounds have been more or less the same for over a century (Civil War and "Indian Wars" era artillery had many different forms, depending on the weight of the gun, whether it was rifled, solid shot, case shot, yaddayadda...) So anyway, arty round...

Hi Dani, Well if that's not frightening, but you've pulled in probably live ones that you didn't know they were live. I kind of wished the large one you pulled & released 2 or 3 videos ago would have been turned in. My biggest fear is with the storms we get in the area & heavy rain a large piece of a tree or a whole tree will float down the river & push some of those bombs, hand grenades, missiles, fire arms, & ammo up on or near the bank. Then some kids will come along & pick it up playing with what they found. We all know how unstable gun powder & nitro can be once wet. Once the water starts to evaporate just a wrong motion can set it off. I live in LaPorte & there used to be ammo plant out at the KOP Kingsbury Ordenace Plant. I know that when I was a teen people would sneak in at night & look for things left on the property. They had buried a bunch of the stuff some was found in one of the bunkers. In the late 1980's the feds came in with equipment & cleaned up the area & took a bunch of stuff & detenanted them all. I know a dirt remover machine hit one that went off. Keep on pulling the dangerous items out of the water ways. I hope the young man that hand got hurt is okay. He's lucky it wasn't broke. Stay safe out there

mortar shells don't usually have the band at the bottom, plus like the cop said it doesn't have its fin assembly and isn't bulged like a mortar shell is. Seems more like a 76/75mm cannon shell.

@steeljawXАй бұрын
Aside from the excitement and the questionable civility of the local motorists, I've got to say you don't make the law enforcement's job easy, do ya? I'm not talking about your frequent call ins for fire arms and ordnance. I'm talking about the full bomb suit officer having to deal with your strong a*s magnet stuck to a potential explosive. Yeah, you might not want to have dealt with your magnet on a potential explosive, but now you've made it someone else's problem. I don't know a work around for it, but it's some weird cosmic satire where the only way you were able to find that thing was via a strong a*s magnet, but probably the worst thing in dealing with that thing was your strong a*s magnet. No way to win on either front. But I can't say if that truck driver was shaking his head at you or at the reality that you were able to pull up something that dangerous from such a benign place that didn't seem that dangerous for decades. With so much going on in the world, the last someone needs to know is, "Hey, that river near you that you probably grew up swimming and fishing in and you had your kids grow up swimming and fishing in there, and your grandkids are now fishing and swimming in there. Yeah, ya'll were playing on top of some explosives." I can't say that's what the mentality of the driver was, but that's a plausible alternative to give the benefit of the doubt. The local motorists....I'm on both sides of the argument there. I will say law enforcement making their business at the scene of the incident and no where else is a pain in the a*s and when it's in the middle of a busy intersection that they haven't properly blocked off or rerouted and it's a single lane exit off the highway intersection they're blocking (in my own personal experience) you can only sit there and wonder 1, WTF are you guys doing? Get it off the road or have one of you two buttheads direct the traffic you're causing. and 2, What alternative is there besides weaseling your way around the squad vehicle? In your case, it's a two lane bridge (one in either direction) and it "appears" that the police have 1 lane blocked off and they're not directing traffic. The logical assumption, unfortunately, that something is happening off of the road and the police are just inconveniencing everyone by occupying 1/2 of the entire road. Again, all it takes is either complete coverage of the road or an officer out there to direct traffic, not that difficult. But the fact that there wasn't an officer out there to direct traffic should have been a bit of a clue that something was up. LEO's are pretty good (usually) about addressing the rest of the setting surrounding their scene as needed. However, if they feel that a potential explosive on a bridge isn't worth controlling the surroundings......again, this is kind of on the police. I'm not telling them how to do their job. I'm just saying that people will stoop to a new level of derp if not given clear instructions. If the situation is dangerous and you don't have anything but the exact same lights you have flashing when pulling someone over for an expired registration, that's kind of on law enforcement in general. Lights and sirens have both been over used and abused to where all it does is make us aware of your presence and inclined to get out of your way. But having an officer out on the street redirecting traffic is so much more of a clear instruction than, "CAN'T YOU SEE THE BLINKING LIGHTS!?!?"
@steeljawXАй бұрын
Also, it's way too late, Dan. We've already seen every law enforcements bomb detail's secrets. We already know those guys in the bomb suits can sprint a quarter mile in 3.6 seconds. They just stumble around because it makes them look like noobs, but really they're like exo suits that just let them Superman the entire thing. That guy didn't get dressed there in the suit, he sprinted from the station. Him "getting suited up" was just the after image of him arriving. Ever seen a guy in a bomb suit "Naruto run"? There's a reason why you haven't and you won't.
@danidipАй бұрын
I agree 100% things could be handled a lot better, but the cops I feel like didn’t know what to do at first! Let’s just say we found some other stuff there recently. They handled it way better this next time along with directing traffic, better road blocks & more people on hand. I’m not gonna ruin the future video with what we found. But it was something way more serious so glad to see they came even more ready then this time.
