What makes Daniel and Johnny’s butting of heads feel repetitive isn’t that they’re clashing again, it’s that they’re clashing again over the same issues of differing philosophies Literally a repeat of their S4 arguing Though I do give em a bit of credit for adding Tory’s dilemma to the mix and Daniel and Johnny’s different perspectives on how to go about it.

There is a difference between bickering and arguing. Bickering between them every now and then is fine (they wouldn't be themselves if they didn't bicker), but I wholeheartedly agree their ARGUMENTS are getting old and repetitive. It's freaking annoying and feels forced, especially after they worked so well together in season 5. What I would point out however is, that the reason for Daniel clinging so much to the Miyagi-Do teachings this season - arguably more than in season 5 - is probably the uncovering of Miyagi's mysterious past. His mentor and father figure kept huge secrets from him and he doesn't know how to deal with it. Unfortunately when Daniel LaRusso doesn't know how to deal with something he tends to spiral and make more than crappy desicions - just look at how he reacted when Johnny brought back Cobra Kai (even though his worries were not entirely unfounded with the way Hawk and Miguel were acting at the end of season 1. That wasn't Kreese that was Johnny still being blind to a lot of faults in the Cobra Kai mentality. Johnny brought it back with the best of intentions, but he desperately needed that wake up call of Miguel and Hawk injuring Robby. Unfortunately by then Kreese was back und undermined him at every turn.) or more recently when Silver came back into the picture. Again unfortunately Miyagi isn't here anymore to guide him, so Daniel clings to what he knows, to what he has left of the man he admired so much, what has helped him in the past. That's why he talks about him so much, almost to the point of puting him on a pedestal. He clings more than is aruguably good for him.

I couldn’t have said it any better👏🏻👏🏻I think it’s bugging me so much because s5 was such a breath of fresh air in terms of these 2 , they barely argued at all, they had each others backs , they celebrated successes together, and they were seemingly friends. I agree completely Chozen One. I get that Daniel and Johnny will always have their differences and their viewpoints/philosophies will clash on occasion but honestly, it's all just pointless and not funny anymore. I know it's only part 1 and we haven't seen part 2 or 3 yet but it's getting ridiculous at this moment. It's one of the reasons why season 6 is my least favorite season (next to season 4), among the whole Miyagi being a quote on quote "criminal" (yes I know he's only human and yes we all make mistakes but the whole Miyagi being a criminal subplot feels a but disrespectful to Miyagi's legacy and kinda contradicts what we know of the character), plus they just added it in to fuel Daniel and Johnny's bickering (which was not executed well).

Johnny did start off with embracing Miyagi-Do pretty well in the first 3 episodes, but during episode 4 and onto episode 5, he was kinda reverting from Miyagi-Do back into Cobra Kai/Eagle Fang. The problem is that Johnny is expecting to be trusted by Daniel and allowed to make all of his own decisions, and some of his decisions weren't really the best. That's why it's always better for both Daniel and Johnny to actually talk to each other and go over the things they are about to do first before they actually do anything... People always talk about Daniel acting all high and mighty when, in reality, it's really Johnny who acts high and mighty most of the time. Johnny *really* needs to realize that he is *not* a king to anyone. He's just another man, just like Daniel and everyone else.

It's the final time they'll ever be able to do it (as it is the final season), so I can understand the writers wanting one final round of this classic conflict before everyone rides off into the sunset. In-story, I think it's the stress that's accumulating around both of them due to the discovery of Mr. Miyagi's secrets and how much Johnny has riding on the outcome of the Sekai Taikai as he has a family to provide for. Worse, Chozen presently isn't there to serve as a buffer between them (things will likely calm down when Chozen rejoins them).

It's especially annoying because in Season 5, they finally moved past all that. At the qualifier in S5 when they asked for their dojo name, Daniel was willing to let the dojo be called Eagle Fang, and Johnny was willing to let it be called Miyagi-Do. But at the beginning of S6 they're arguing about all that again. Definitely the worst part of Season 6. I can understand Daniel and Johnny having a disagreement or two at the dealership, but going full-blown "my way is better than yours" just rehashes what we already resolved from Season 4.

It's not just Daniel and Johnny bickering and arguing, I hate that Tory rejoined Cobra Kai with everything that happened in season 5 it makes no sense. Why would Tory want to work with Kim Da Eun again and why would Kim Da Eun allow Tory into the dojo when she didn't think too highly of her in the first place. With all the new characters that they are bringing in they couldn't bring in a top level female fighter to be a part of the Korean Cobra Kai.
@phillwilliams27812 ай бұрын
Nah man they were perfect in s5. They were terrible in s4, but it can be looked past because at the end, they realized the benefits of both styles. The problem is part 1 is that johnny fully gave up eagle fang. So, I'm assuming Daniel takes it as Johnny doing Miyagi do full time all the time. Him feeling weird about how Johnny trained the kids in ep 5 was weird but he was still coming to terms with the box of secrets. When it comes to the Tory situation, Daniel was right. Tory did need to release her anger but not like that. People think Daniel only wants defense but that isn't the case. Daniel even told Johnny they're better when they work equally and told him not to disrupt the balance. Daniel just hates aggression and rightful because aggression has done nothing positive except cool fight scenes. Johnny unnecessarily trying to sneak that Daniel and Amanda were picking favorites and only then did Tory leave. Plus, Johnny being extra because Daniel didn't make him leave the dealership, when Johnny usually works that shift was pathetic. Respect to Johnny not fighting back when Daniel punched him although Daniel apologized. And let's be honest, Johnny knew what he was doing, he knew Daniel was off balanced because of the box and finally had the chance to throw it in Daniel's face. Hopefully it resolved in part 2 like you said.

This feels incredibly forced and just feels like character regression on both daniel and johnny's parts. idk if Daniel was on a walk one day and got hit in the head with a fucking coconut and just forgot about the lesson he learned at the end of season 4 of allowing Johnny to share his teachings with his students. Johnny also annoyed the hell out of me this season he feels more immature than ever which bothers me because I thought him uniting his and carmen's family together with this baby would help him grow up. While Johnny being dumb and out of touch in past seasons was funny I feel like they took it to far this season.

Honestly I gotta disagree. They have evolved and it shows. About Season 5 giving off a false sense that the two are together, this is addressed in Episode 1 of Season 6 by Daniel. Who wants to quit the Sekai Taikai because they only joined to fight Silver, meanwhile here they are fighting for their own gains. And Daniel says he fears this could cause a drift. This makes a lot of sense. Daniel and Johnny have always been involved in karate wars; good vs evil and crap. Without any threat the only people they are focused on are each other, two fundamentally different people who while they do have an understanding about themselves sort of, were made clear to be set in their ways in S4 only agreeing that it shouldn't affect the kids. Which is exactly what happens, Johnny splits from Daniel but actually stays in Miyagi Do because he believes the kids don't deserve it. The writers acknowledged this was the point, they have grown and this is a situation they have never dealt with before and going more into it. Also one party is not stuck in their ways. Both are. William Zabka made this clear in Behind the Dojo that Johnny is stuck in his roots as well. That's actually the whole point of their split up. They both are trying to help a girl who lost her mother in the best ways they think. Daniel believes anger has always taken you down a darker path and leaves you uncontrollable, he wants Tory to settle down and that is THE way. Despite Johnny abandoning Cobra Kai the roots are still there for him. This situation was personal for him cause all he has done in his life was use anger and fighting to cope. Which makes sense that his mother who we know was the only person he cared about, that was his only way to cope but had no matts or fighting to take out his anger which makes sense why the writers made that. And the fact he wants to give a girl an opportunity to do something he couldn't and Daniel is standing in his way, it infriutates him. And when he says Mr. Miyagi; Johnny is absolutely done, which was what S6 built up. Johnny frustration with holding back his roots. But even then we see Johnny grow. S5 Johnny was about to fight Daniel when he insulted him. But here Daniel actually punched him and Johnny kept his composure. Miyagi Do rubbed off him. And for Daniel we have to note the guy was more lenient in the first three episodes. He was going to give up his dojo name for Eagle Fang, he goes to both Johnny and Chozen to stop them fighting and reitterates to Johnny he fully intends to teach both styles equally, and let Johnny work his magic on his kid and Tory. What changed that? The box, his coping mechanism was to double down on everything Miyagi. That's why when he talks to Amanda about Johnny's "mumbo jumbo" in his lessons, Amanda is confused cause she thought that was the plan. And as Amanda says, Daniel has been off balance since the box. With what the writers have been planning in their interview. It seems they do want to make it that Miyagi is flawed and that's what breaks Daniel idolizing him, but realize that the mistakes Miyagi made him who he is. No word from Johnny but I imagine his Cobra Kai roots are not fitting when raising a baby. He'd be an arrested dad cause he was going to beat up that real estate guy. I imagine he conforms to some Miyagi Do methods and Johnny makes amends with Kreese, the guy responsible for creating his roots in the first place.
@garrettlambert33572 ай бұрын
That is a great point, man, but I still think it's annoying because this should have been the time that Johnny, Daniel, and all of the teenagers are united as one and facing off the big threats of Cobra Kai and the other dojo's

@@garrettlambert3357 I think that’s why they made it unknown for the protagonists that Kreese and Kim Da-Eun were building up in the background, and only when they had messed themselves up does Cobra Kai show up at the tournament. Johnny had a point about Tory needing an outlet for her anger and grief, but Daniel and Amanda were right about calling off the fight between the girls. We have seen how easily you can take it too far - even without meaning to - when you let your emotions control you in a fight. (Just look at what happened at the end of season 2, it nearly happened again in season 5.) Tory kept coming after Sam, even after scoring a point, she could have easily seriously injured herself or Sam if they had let it continue, the look on Sam's face was terrified. Again Johnny has a point about about Tory needing an outlet but that should NOT be a fellow student - ESPECIALLY not a fellow member of their Sekai Taikai team - it should be a punching bag, supervised by at least one of her senseis and with her friends there for support once she finally breaks. Unfortunately his students' physical safety is something Johnny has never given much thought to with his training exercises.
