Daniel Arsham, has been aware of his color blindness since childhood. While it doesn't significantly impact his daily life, occasionally leading to mix-ups with colors like socks or clothing, it has shaped his artistic perspective in intriguing ways.
During his university studies, Daniel encountered the topic of color theory, which highlighted the limitations of his color perception. However, this challenge only fueled his creativity, leading him to create mesmerizing artworks that often feature a single dominant color.
In his pursuit to enhance his color vision, Daniel experimented with lenses designed to correct color deficiency. While initially magical, he found them to be distracting and opted for a more objective view of color within his studio practice.
A pivotal moment in Daniel's career came when he collaborated with the renowned choreographer Merce Cunningham on stage design. Despite having no prior experience in stage design, Daniel embraced the opportunity, immersing himself in the world of performance and expanding his artistic horizons.
Drawing inspiration from archaeology and the concept of time, Daniel embarked on a fascinating artistic exploration. He began crafting objects that mimic archaeological relics, casting them in materials such as crystal and volcanic ash. This unique approach blurs the boundaries between the past and present, inviting viewers to contemplate their relationship with objects and the passage of time.
Throughout his artistic journey, Daniel Arsham continues to push boundaries and captivate audiences with his thought-provoking creations. From his early encounters with color to his collaborations and exploration of archaeological aesthetics, his work remains a testament to his artistic evolution.
