Pleasantly surprised by the Chopin at the end, that was marvellously phrased

I'd like to know which Chopin (which opus) this is. Can you help me with that?

Not sure if you're still looking for this piece, but it's the opening to Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1, though the piano doesn't start until a few minutes in.

I’ll have to listen to Lang Lang again. I’ve detected in him and his age peers a lack of emotional depth, which can be demonstrated when you can identify who is playing by listening blind bc their “voice” (technique + emotional depth) shines through....they’re super flash technically, but a person can be enamored with their facility and make the huge mistake of thinking they’ve conquered Everest, when they’ve only got their equipment to the first base camp. I believe that’s what Barenboim was talking about when he was discussing Lang Lang’s future. So I’ll listen to some of his recent efforts.

Yes I am in agreement. Daniel Barenboim is systematically leading him to maturity.

Why would nationality play an important role in feeling affinity to a composer? There are french musicians who played german music well or vice versa..

He never said nationality, but background. He obviously thinks culture, or that matters, how many famous Asians classical pianists, compared to how many western ones we know? That doesn't mean its a definitive barrier, we already saw recently asians win almost all international prizes. Is just that it is harder (and maybe longer to achieve) for them from such perspective.

@@Paroles_et_Musique thanks for your note; it is interesting how many people defend barrenboim or argerich when there is a comment against what they said. Fame is not a criteria to be a good artist, especially these days. It is true that far east or middle east does not have polyphonic music in their traditions and it might be foreign to them, geography plays a big role in sharing the culture as well. I see nationality, country of origin being brought up all the time when reviewing artist’s performance and I don’t necessarily agree with this.

@@ritorenello No, nationality is never brought up, at least in serious sources, I don't browse all the peeps vomiting in KZbin. But anyway, when sharing cultures (I mean go in China ans start speaking perfect chinese, everyone around will point to your origins but not necessarily pejorative, right?), it might be relevant to talk about background, call it origins, culture, they all mean same thing. Btw, Kissin was russian citizen and now is an Israeli citizen, so see, nationality can change, yet your background not. He still carries russian cultural background At least here, you are the only one bringing nationality, as Barenboim never told such. See, its you who look to create controversy where there was none. And I didn't defend Barenboim, I only pointed you told a lie.
