Daniel and Rebecca Boone's cabin is located in Kingsport, Tennessee just off the side of the road. It is an amazing piece of history that is still in fantastic shape. It seems virtually no one knows it is there but it is a must-see when in the area. It is truly hidden in plain sight.

I remember that song on TV as a kid in the 60s ........ "Daniel Boone was a man, he was a big man, fought for america to all americans free." British lost the war in 1780 around these parts ..... glad to be here. Boone had an out post and little cave right near my subdivision over here in south Johnson city .... near Buffaloe Mountain .... we got a little cemetery here in Garland subdivision with some old patriot graves from the revolution .... warms my heart to be living here .....

Neat find!!! I lived in BOONE, NC for 10 years. Lots of "Boone" stuff there and in "Meat Camp". At 3:25 in the video you stated that, "1973 to 1975 Daniel and Rebecca lived here." Did you mean to say 1773 to 1775? And did they live "here" then... or did they live in Duffield then? Or did you just mean that they lived in "this cabin then"? Thanks for the little tour.

My 4x's great grandfather traveled with Daniel Boone from Kingsport to Boonesborough. His name was memorialized on the monument at the Boonesborough park. Also, in Scott County Virginia near Gate City there is a creek called Big Moccasin. The story goes that the Boone party traveled through on their way to Kentucky, found moccasin prints on the creek bank and named the creek.

The cabin's present location may have confused you. The Boone party only travelled through the Kingsport area on their way to what became Castlewood, VA. The cabin was moved from that area to Kingsport to be part of the museum, there. When they left for KY, it was from Castlewood, not Kingsport.

@@toadrancher9804 I should have clarified a little better, my Ancestor Joshua Penix joined the Boone Party in Kingsport from what I understand. In 2015 a descendent of Joshua's recreated the walk from Kingsport to the Fort, following the original Boone Trace as closely as possible.

Thanks for the video. I originally thought that you meant that Daniel Boone lived in Kingsport and the cabin was still standing. He had several places he "lived" in the area, but mostly over in Ft Blackmore, VA area. You mentioned Duffield, that would have been right for Daniel.

Daniel Boone was born in Pennsylvania to Quaker parents. He traveled down to NC to marry Rebecca and then they were off to Kentucky through the Gap and then after that to Missouri where his final home (made of rock) still stands today.

I am sure I saw it many times as I drove pass the netherland Inn and thot it was just part of the Inn. Fantastic find! Thank you!

My name is Steve Fraley, I'm a great-great grandson of Ephraim Fraley, whose family were the last inhabitants of the cabin. My great grandfather, Jefferson Davis Fraley was born in the cabin in 1863, and my grandfather, Baker Leonard Fraley, was born on the farm where the cabin still stood (uninhabited) until it was moved. The Boone and Fraley (English corruption of original old German, Froehlich) families both emigrated from Pennsylvania and New York, respectively, to the Yadkin Valley in present day NC, where they were pioneer neighbors. Johannes Friedrich Froehlich (aka Frederick Fraley born in 1725 in the village of Mannweiler in the Rheinland-Pfalz, now a state in the unified nation of Germany, not far from Frankfurt) joined Boone in the Transylvania Land Co., headed west/northwest, and established the first white settlement west of the Blue Ridge, at Castle's Wood (present day Castlewood, VA). When Boone and others left for KY in 1775, Frederick bought his land claim of over 2000 acres, including the cabin (which was evidently nicer than his original cabin), and moved in. There's still a few hundred acres of that original plot intact near Castlewood and St. Paul, VA and presently owned by the Bush Family. There are a few small pieces scattered around that are still owned and lived on by descendants of Frederick. Frederick was already an old man by the standards of the time, especially on the frontier, so it made sense to settle down and live out his life there, instead of moving on to KY. That made even more sense to me when I travelled to Mannweiler (now Mannweiler-Koln, as two nearby villages grew together into one) in 2017. The landscape was so similar to SW VA, that it was easy to imagine a man feeling "at home" and comfortable that he could make a living in such country. The story goes on, with Moore's Fort, battles with the British-allied Cherokees during the Revolution, etc., but I'll stop. History is endlessly fascinating to me, and to find a direct family connection to historical events is an amazing gift. To be clear, I am not an "ancestor worshipper" and put no stock whatsoever in contemporary people seeking social status on the basis of their ancestry. Just sharing something that might be of interest to other history lovers. Thank you for posting this video!
