No one has ever cared about black women on a global scale enough to stop supporting anything that may harm them so they won’t not listen to his music because he said something about them, he seems cancelled because that was majority of his fan base.

Dmb comparison that doesn't have anything to do with Daniel. R Kelly had a 30+ year career with a diverse fanbase so people have made memories with his music and while some make excuses for him, the truth is most of the Blck old school music guys were all deviants. Caesar was a new artist with a very niche fanbase. A better comparison would be Chrisette Michelle becauseshe also had a niche fanbase and she found out the hard way that you never piss off your core fanbase. @javontem3407

His "cancellation" was successful because Daniel offended his core listeners, black women at the time. Daniel really undermines how important it is for an artist to have that core, loyal audience. Black fans are really important to a black artist career, as they are first supporters to these black artists. This is why we say “Black people are not a monolith.” He’s first gen Canadian, Black Jamaican immigrant parents… despite his music appealing to, and being inspired by Black American people, he didn’t understand the Black American experience. The Black experience varies place to place. African Americans have different experiences than Nigerians have different experiences than Black Brits have different experiences than South Africans have different experiences than Black Cubans have different experiences from Jamaicans and so on. Ofc, there’s genetic and cultural overlap. We have shared roots but we are not all the same. We all have to try to be empathetic and work to educate ourselves. Too many people outside of the African American community like to police us and tell us how we should feel. No one has the right to tell someone from a community they aren’t a part of, certainly if you are not educated on the group, how they should react towards oppression and bigotry. That’s the mistake he made. The public’s mistake was assuming a first Gen Jamaican Canadian kid from the suburbs fully understood the African American community, its struggles and it history. 🤷🏽♀️ I didn’t like him for years because he said what he said in a time when Black men were constantly degrading Black women and just wreaking of internalized racism and it turned me off but I’m glad I saw this video and learned of his redemption.

I won’t lie, that incident definitely affected how I seen Daniel as a person. He kind of became one of those artist where I had to tell my self to separate the Artist from the Art. I was heavily invested in his career for the longest because of the beauty of his music. However, when I heard what he said, as a black woman, it made me think, Why would I support something that doesn’t support me? I never stopped listening to his music granted if it came on the radio or if my music was on shuffle and one of his songs were in the mix. But I noticed I stopped searching for his music and when I would hear his music that’s all I would think about. Truthfully, I’m not apart of this whole cancel culture thing but for me personally I’ve always been one to believe when people are under the influence their truth comes out. And as much as it makes me happy to watch this video and that he is still moving along (as I don’t wish anything to hurt his career) I don’t think I’ll ever see him the same. Thank you for the video it was beautiful and a great project like always! ❤❤❤

So no room for growth or self discovery? Crazy. As the person said in the video many of the greats you may or may not look up to have shady pasts faaaaaar worse than the dumb comment Daniel made. If you were that seriously affected by what he said then I feel for you, but I think it’s just weird you’d keep something in your heart from a 23 year old (at the time), drunk kid with seemingly the world on his shoulders. Maybe you’re not the live and forget type of person, but damn that must be rough.

After that whole controversy I completely checked out on him 🤷🏾♀️. Didn’t even know about the apology with Nadeska. This is a SIGNIFICANTLY better apology than the last one lol. It definitely seems like he’s grown and hopefully he means it. I 100% agree that his cancellation left space for other artists to bloom. I haven’t felt like I missed his music because I found artists like Giveon and 6lack and pink$weats, so I never felt the need to keep up with him or seek out his music. Very interesting video and definitely gave me a different perspective. Maybe I’ll peek in on him and see what he’s up to.

Why do you reckon people are okay with supporting Giveon after what he did but not Daniel? He's apologised for his behaviour and seemingly grown. However, from what I've seen, people have criticised him to a larger extent compared to Giveon. Giveon has been allowed to flourish but this thing Daniel did seems to follow him around. Do you think you'd be able to support/respect him again? This video defs showed a different perspective.

@@Kaaaman What did Giveon do? I haven’t heard of him being in any controversy.
@mochalily37358 ай бұрын
@@Kaaaman If you watched the video, you should understand why Daniel was so heavily criticized. Not only did he disrespect and disregard the experiences of his own community, he literally TOLD the community to cancel him over his need to protect a woman who had been nothing but disrespectful to his core fanbase. He went as far as to call the oppressors “the winning team” 🤦🏾♀️ He dared the community to cancel him and then got upset when the community canceled him. The only thing I found on Giveon is that he cheated on his girlfriend. As far as I know he didn’t insult the community or support a white woman using a racial slur. He also didn’t give some bs apology where he took no accountability. It’s not comparable.

You are not special because you are black, GOD chose what color you will be before you was born, this generation lives off of the older generations sacrifices and claim its so hard and racist for them, and think that they can cancel an entire artist that other races that have the majority loves! I bet he could care less, I would. Black people can't save my soul or give me every lasting life! They are not or will ever be God, Go read about Ham and see about the history of blacks. I'm exhausted of these ideologies that foreign blacks don't understand American racism. It's the same racism and open bigotry there😂 racist ideology is not something specific to the U.S., and black Americans offer so much “grace” that it gets ridiculously nauseating. Daniel is NOTHERN American, and he was trying to protect a racist because he found her attractive and thought she would appreciate his effort- she didn't care (a lot of us have male family members exactly like him.) He couldn't even say what he was wrong about, nor did he have a response about him ostracizing his core audience- black women. With more and more black people of foreign extraction gaining popularity making music, films, tv that is from Black American culture or heavily influenced by it, maybe more of them should learn to respect that they aren't of the culture and therefore shouldn't speak on our issues out of respect in the same way many don't appreciate Americans speaking on their issues. It's just having mutual respect for each other's different experiences. Hell, Meek Mill got flamed just for asking South Africans what apps they prefer to listen to music on recently.

I have to say that people deciding no longer to listen to his music after he dared them to, doesnt feel like the usual cancelation. No one took opportunities from him, they just PERSONALLY decided to stop listening to him. No artists is owed peoples eyes and ears, no matter how good they are. And I hear people in the comments when they say we, black people, have issues with accountability but the "hyve mind" has a purpose ( even if its often not used correctly) and that is to keep the community as a whole safe from people who'd stab is in the back for white approval ( which has happend). Being on code has a function. Our biggest issue was his biggest issue, just having opinions without all of the facts and context and nuance. Glad he was able to reflect and change, hope he gets another chance.
