For any nation to succeed, two institutions (the judiciary and law enforcement) should be very independent and strong. Having the above institutions functionally independent and strong augurs well for the citizens cos this engenders trust and confidence: that everyone can rely on both systems to guarantee law and order. Presidents can exploit the legislature packing it with their favourites so that it can enact laws to suit their interests but both the judiciary and law enforcement will ensure that the rights of citizens are respected and protected with law and order being paramount. Until we come up with such strong institutions, we are going nowhere fast. That’s why everyone does what they like in Ghana knowing that their wealth and powerful connections will sort them out. We are simply a FAILED STATE.
