Is there a significance in the differing spellings: "semeiosis" vs "semiosis" ? I have seen each in more than one instance; just curious. Thank you--

The original Greek word is spelled σημεῖον (sēmeîon, meaning mark or sign), in which the letters εῖ (eî) are pronounced as a single long vowel sound. That's why some people transcribe it more or less letter by letter, while others chose a more phonetic transcription.

Since we know that Homo Sapiens Sapiens bred with Neanderthals and Denisovans on many, or at least several, occasions, I think it is quite likely that a bit of one or several Neanderthal and Denisovan languages were known by some modern humans - and vice versa.
