Daniel Roesner, action star from "Alarm for Cobra 11," had his houseboat serviced at the Meiderich shipyard. Inland vessels have been built and repaired here since 1898.

Houseboats have always been associated with old clams and young freaks. Today, both families and people who are generally accepted as well-off express strong desires to live on the water. The desire for swaying boards has become so great that even the coffee company Tchibo had a houseboat in its lineup two years ago. Where there is water, there are houseboats. The new lifestyle is growing in almost every trendy city around the globe: Copenhagen, Hamburg, Berlin, Paris, London and Amsterdam. What's more, there seem to be no limits to the unique designs of these houseboats: angular, round, made of wood, glass, steel, antique or modern. And if you get seasick after a while, you have the option of simply renting out your houseboat for the vacations.
