If I could choose only one, I would choose Transparent Red Oxide.

Its funny that they are calling a Natural Iron Oxide paint, a Prematek. Because if its Natural Iron Oxide, that would be like any other PBr7. It looks like weak Burnt Sienna to me. Thank for sharing! Its so fun to watch and hear what you think. PS, I have Fired Gold Ochre and mine is strong. Good for skin tones. I think the dot cards get so old and dry that some pigments do not rewet well. I had some of my Premateks dry to a waxy finish. No way to rewet so I poured Ox-Gal on them & glycerin. It worked to save them.

Yes I think you're right about old dot cards. Could have been sitting in a warehouse for years 🤣

Deep Scarlet, Naphthamide Maroon, and Piemontite Genuine are staples in my palette and some of the colors I reach for most. Deep scarlet and Naphthamide Maroon work beautifully together. I hope you chose to play around with them! I also like them in a painting with Nickel Azo yellow and Indigo.

Danielle, I recently heard that DS is the only company with PR171, and may b discontinued. I do not know if this is true, but thought I'd let u know. I love this color A LOT, so I picked up 2 more tubes for a "just in case". Have a nice day...

that napthamide maroon really stands out. and PR171 rates really good on lightfastness (handprint). it reminds me a bit of a perylene violet and of Mission Gold's *violet lake* which is a pretty unique color i haven't seen elsewhere and handles great. it's a deep dusky purple though. definitely more towards a dioxazine violet than the pinkish *napthamide maroon* here. THOUGH... WN's *perylene violet* , looking at my swatches, is quite similar to the napth. maroon, although the napth has a pinker leaning undertone. and the raw umber violet is like the browner version of WN's perylene violet. super interesting! i like these muted subtle tones. i think they'll be unique per brand, so there isn't much fear of buying the same thing. schmincke's greenish umber is pretty *weak* so while good for certain applications like skin tones it might not be as great for things needing a higher pigment load. i think DS's version is stronger. OH, and DS's *Raw umber violet* is pretty dang close to schmincke's *caput mortuum*. difference is textural, tone is pretty bang on. DS *permanent brown* is pretty close to DaVini's *Brown Madder* (I'm comparing actual swatches.) i sort of collect *perylene maroons* .... PR179. WN is awesome, fairly reddish (DS's is kind of more toned down). holbein's is much brighter and more red (love it. GREAT for a deep RED) and can go a lot thinner in tints pretty easy. m graham's is similar to WN only more intense color and masstone definitely has more of a ruddy maroon. overall the color lays down heavier as well. all three are awesome. DS version looks like a really really desaturated maroon. so if you want that, it's a good pick. it's closest to WN but definitely duller. personally i find the WN super versatile and wouldn't want a less reddish version.

Since I started out buying Daniel Smith, I do consider their earths kind of my "standard." I have Burnt Sienna, Raw and Burnt Umber, and the Transparent Red and Brown oxides. I also have the Piedmontite and Hematite, since I got the Primatek set, and the set has some of the nicest ones. I think they actually look much better from the tube than from the dotcard here. Finally, I have Perelyne Maroon and I also think that looks nicer from the tube. It goes quite dark in value, and is quite brown compared to, say, Schmincke.

I love Piemontite gen - I just bought a new tube. I was hoping to reduce my earths, but I just couldn’t give that up.

I like them! I have a few of these. I get a lot of use from my Mummy bauxite. I also like their raw umber. The permanent brown is a recent acquisition and it’s really quite stunning in person. Strong tonal range it’s is a good one for monochromatic studies/art. I also love Perylene maroon and am happy to have it. There are a few here I’d love like that quinacridone burnt scarlet maybe I can get some before the pigment Runs out? Fun and useful video, thanks.

Tiger’s Eye genuine was very difficult to rewet, I thought I might have bought an old tube. I saw today DS released a new black, McCracken black. I hope more get released

Is McCracken black the one made from 7 pigments? I've never tried it but it sounds interesting.

Which would you say is your favorite yellow ochre or yellow ochre equivalent paint (py42 or py43) out of all the brands you’ve tried so far? Thanks for these videos!

I love the Quin Burnt Scarlet and it's really upsetting about PR206. Hopefully DS will be able to come up with something equally as beautiful and useful. I like the Sedona Genuine. It's a very nice color. I always wonder about lightfastness on the "genuines." I do like Mummy Bauxite, especially now that it isn't made from mummies. lol I think Daniel Smith's earth colors is so huge that they must have something for everyone.
