I would add the following tips also Practice your solo drills your drills Wearing your equipment. You can get physically exhausted very quickly fighting with the equipment. You need to become comfortable moving about striking avoiding etc. while wearing the equipment so that it doesn’t feel foreign to you once you get into a match Make sure you train your forearm strength by that I mean your gripping strength training wearing your protective gloves and striking objects you’ll find that your hand strength your finger grip will get tired fairly quickly and it will become difficult to hang onto the stick. If you train with your gloves on hitting objects you will build up the proper strength and muscular endurance so that it will not be as much of a factor in a match. Practice foot work exercises lateral movement circular movement etc. while wearing the gear. Again, this is to become a custom to having it on and being able to move easily in spite of it. Even though it’s already been covered make sure that you have a staple of three straight combinations that work for you. Practice those assiduously so that once you’re fighting you can rely on automatic pilot and won’t have to think about the techniques. I really regret not doing this when I was competing I could’ve done a lot better had I known to do this

I wish I had a video telling me exactly what to do when I was competing back in the 1980s. Back then this was brand new for me I had no point of reference and had to pretty much make it up as I went along and mimic what I saw other people doing. The advice you are giving here is so valuable I hope people don’t take it for granted it definitely would’ve made me a champion instead of just a competitor

@@elginbolling337 Thanks for appreciating! Even now in 2024 I think the sport is still very young and there's a lot more that can be done for it's growth. Trying to do my part even in small ways. 🙏

Great Video! I totally agree with what you said. When I practice and I know that I am gonna spar next class in this type of rules I always practice my favourite combinations in long, medium, and short range along with some counters I like.

Might I suggest a video? Could you please give us tips for realistic kinds of sparring? And sparring for street and "real world" applications? Thanks very much, good, sir. Your content is always outstanding!

Alphonse Vita I can't because that's not what I do. The only applications I'm interested in at the moment are for sports or for artistic expression. :)

Try checking out my video "Real Contact Stick Fighting" though. That's the closest to "realistic" I've gotten. Although, in my opinion, any form of sparring will have artificial elements. :)

Ask your teacher in that school. :) Maybe he/she has something that they can offer outside.

Arnis competitions are just pointless, it's devoid of any forms and techniques. It's like playing Tekken with a new character just button mashing randomly. Relagating a martial art into a mere sport is just disrespectful to the art

did you lose the first tournament you tried then quit? 😂🤣

Muay Thai is a sport, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has sport competitions as requirements for promotion with some groups. In arnis, most of the best fighters I've met have all done their time in competition circuits. Maybe you just haven't been exposed to high level competition?

@@daniel_bernas Arnis competition in a nutshell: Forget forms and techniques, just keep on mindless hitting and hitting, hitting hitting. It was never meant to be a sport to begin with. And those idiots who designed the old heavy padding armour also destroyed the art. What a joke
@handel1111 Жыл бұрын
@@ponkhan High level competition is Juego Todo, less padding were fighters actually using blocking and proper defense, kick, hands. The current format is just a failure
