In this video, I’m going over my credit card strategy for 2025! I’ll be talking about my 2024 credit card recap, how I redeem credit card points for travel, and how I plan to get more value from my twoplayer credit card strategy in 2025.
My credit card plan for 2025 is going to involve 5 key things that I’ll discuss in this video. I’ll also cover how me and Jackie redeemed points and miles last year for travel and some upcoming trips we have planned.

Great to hear about your redemptions for 2024! Big things happening this year for you and Jackie! We're also thinking of purchasing a home in the next 1-2 years so we'll have to slow down our CC apps in 2025 too. Exciting times!!

To both of you guys, if buying a house in the next 12 months, I strongly suggest not applying for any new cards. Having a great credit score doesn’t ensure you the best available interest rate. I’m locked in 3 1/8% 30 year mortgage in Phila metro area since 2016. They scrutinized every deposit and withdrawal on our checking accounts and wanted info on my pension, my 457 (I’m a law enforcement officer) and my Merrill Lynch investment accounts. So many hard inquiries will affect you. I’m not a financial guru. I’m just an OCD guy that has fun maximizing every penny spent for the best return on my cards.

And just for the record: i’m a cashback guy: only rock a city trifecta and a BOA premium rewards and customized CB. Bank of America makes sense for me because the bonus I get for my investment accounts. I also have a Discover card that I refuse to cancel for length of credit history and also have fun maximizing the 5% quarterly. Only 2 /48 but no interest in any chase cards. I don’t travel enough and I don’t value airport lounges. :) 830-840 ish credit score. Waiting for a new Citi Prestige if it has good travel insurance and multipliers and a good SUB. Enjoy both of your KZbin channels. Keep up the good work and good luck in 2025 👍

Yes. A rule of thumb for mortgage underwriters is to not open any new cards within 6 months of that mortgage application. Also be aware that even though you have good credit, some underwriters do not like seeing applicants with a lot of open credit cards. They will look at income vs available credit as well. Good luck.

@@Daniel_Braun got a mortgage with a credit card opened 3 months before. They said it had minimal impact since I had no balances and it was a small % of my total credit limit. Credit score wasnt affected (dropped like 6 points). Probably still best not to open anything but don't think it is as big a deal as people say.
@rooswrx09
@rooswrx09 Ай бұрын
@@ignacio2763 You're correct, the approval process is much more biased on the debt to income ratio for a home loan. I have never had a loan denied for having too many credit cards opened recently. Most underwriting is automated nowadays and the actual underwriter just bases the decision off what the automated system tells them, very little human discretion is used.

Hey Daniel, I also use the Hyatt Business Card to help reach Globalist status. I used to pay all of my quarterly taxes with it (Q1 - Q4), but after including my own actual nights at Hyatt I used to get to around 80 nights after including the spend. Nowadays what I do is I prepay my taxes in Q1 and Q2 with newly opened business cards to get the sign up bonuses, and then by Q3 I'll know how many nights I'll stay in Hyatt for the rest of the year so that way I know how much to put on my Hyatt Business Card for Q3 and Q4 tax payments to reach 60 nights. I think going over 60 nights but not reaching 100 or 150 for the free night certificate is a waste in my opinion so now I target exactly 60 nights. Thanks for the video as always!

11:46 I started following your channel this past March and that is something I’ve wondered for awhile. How is your credit score since you’re frequently signing up for new credit cards and getting rid of cards you no longer want? My credit score has sat around 750-770 for the past several years, but my husband and I don’t apply for new credit cards frequently and don’t make major purchases outside of purchasing our house and one new car, both in the past 5 years. Do you find you have a harder time being approved for larger purchases (i.e. house) since you do apply for new credit cards frequently? Also, totally love that you’re going to change titles to “what’s in OUR wallet!” You are doing a really awesome job explaining how you and your wife are a team and that it’s not just all about you. Love that!

I wish I points. It is so stressful. I’m sitting on 300k of points and have daily drop but people compare the points to the flight they book to determine points per dollar instead of points per the cheapest flight and if you compare versus the cheapest flight, it is usually less than 1 point per cent of high is a terrible deal. I wish I liked points but I continue to pay annual fees for cards to keep points I won’t use.

Hey Daniel, just wanted to ask. When you say the points value of these first/business class flights you took last year, is that the one way price or round trip?
@Daniel_Braun

Those were the one way prices where we redeemed points to London and to Amsterdam for the best deal on award seats

Credit card inquiry. Haven't used credit card in the past 2 years. I have rewards. If I transfer the rewards to my balance and then use my credit card, will this negatively affect my credit score? Trying avoid a huge dip.

I currently use a Discover and a USAA Amex but I’d like to get into the Chase ecosystem soon. Once I do is it bad to cancel those other two cards?

Hello Daniel, wonderful video as always. I have few questions for you. I am looking to open the Amex Platinum card as the sign up bonus is as high as 175k right now. do you know when that offer is going to reduce. I plan on opening it next week but what to be strategic about the timing and also, when does the annual fee usually hit your statement. thanks

For a card like the chase freedom unlimited - what do you plan on doing with it after the 1 year of groceries? Loaded question for basically , are you terminating/discontinuing any credit card?

So my wife and I typically use that or the Venture X as our catch all card. When we want to earn more Chase points, that's when we use the CFU - and that's mostly because we like Chase points for the Hyatt transfers with our Sapphire Reserve. But I haven't really cancelled many cards yet other than my Amex Business Gold and maybe one other. I've downgraded a few cards though to keep that account open

Hey Daniel, I’m just curious how much does your credit limit improve as you add more cards? What is a good credit limit to expect from these cards? Currently I only have 3 credit cards with my highest being 30k credit limit and the other two being 1/2k. If I were to get let’s say a chase sapphire preferred, what’s a good credit limit to expect? Also is it based on income? I’m currently making about $70k a year. Thx
@Daniel_Braun
@Daniel_Braun Ай бұрын
Limits can definitely increase over time, but to me the amount never matters that much since you can always pay off early to manage utilization. Income definitely plays a role as well. If you have Chase cards then you can move limits around between cards if needed
