I very much appreciate that Barenboim is one of the few performers (another is Lang Lang) who draw attention to the gentle dissonances in the piece rather than trying to make them just softly dissolve into the harmony. It enhances the overall wistful effect of the piece dramatically.

i now understand why debussy was once titled as the 'monet of piano', his pieces are phrased so beautifully yet still robust and firm, it is beautiful how he can shape it using odd chords or phrasing/rhythms in his pieces which can complement other phrases in unimaginable ways.
