I agree to a certain extent. Beat the top 3 guys maybe top 5. But theres always new prospects coming up that will want and earn an opportunity. So clearing a division is never ending. If you can get a second belt and theres a chance you can take over a emd division and earn more money it makes sense to do it sooner than later

Lightweight division can be never clear out, its too stacked. Lightweight titĺe defense record is 3 defenses for a reason. -DC's heavy division has around 40 ufc fighters. -Lightweight division has around 100 ufc fighters, its not even close. 35 years old curse exists in 135-145-155-170 only for a reason not at heavier divisions.

Randy Couture was the first 2 division champion but Conor was only allowed to be simultaneous due to PR, Conor never defended 145 lbs and wasn't able to cut weight to 145 lbs anymore, so he wasn't returning 145 lbs after the Aldo fight, only on paper Conor was simultaneous, in reality he was just another 2 division champ just like Couture. Henry didn't return to 125 lbs division as well and DC wasn't the lineal 205 lbs champ too since he never beat Jones, so in reality, no champ was really a simultaneous double champ in ufc.

It wasn't just due to PR. Back then with the handful of events UFC held a year, and the lack of depth in the roster, a champion would not be able to hold two titles without significantly holding back both divisions. The modern term would be "hold the division hostage." Add to the fact Couture didn't even think about moving down to LHW until he lost the HW title, lost the subsequent title shot, and was given the opportunity to fight for the interim LHW belt. BJ Penn is also a two division champ, with various fights and divisions in between earning the 2 belts.

In Ilia's case, there's really only Volk that deserves a title shot, so he should look for double-champ status right now, then rematch Volk with two belts around his waist.

While maybe Jones would lose if he was clean, I think DC could never beat Jones due to the huge size difference (DC has 72' reach while Jones has 84') because DC closes the size gap with guys like Lewis or Volkan due to his skill advantage but Jones is equally skilled as DC and also a lot bigger in size. @JamalBlakk , Khabib fought Conor only 5 months after fighting Iaquinta, then he received 9 months penalty after the Conor fight, then his Tony fight was canceled due to pandemic, so you can't blame him. Makhachev fought Volk on Australia only 4 months after Oliveira fight. Then Makhachev told UFC, he wants to fight March in ufc 299 card after beating Volk again in the rematch, but they told him O'Malley is fighting there as main event and refused him, so its not his fault again, then he told ufc he wants to fight in June 1, otherwise ufc would make him wait until October Abu Dhabi card again.
