What happened to the writing advice videos on fantasy protagonists and worlds? Why does it all have to be so over the top cartoony and set on constant "entertainment"? Your writing advice videos I mentioned were within any over the top acting or affects - your opinions and facts were interesting. You needed no clown comedy to be interesting. So why now? You are free to do what you want, of course, and I hope you're happy. But Diane Callahan and little thought tree show that substance requires no goofy shits and giggles or video effects to work.

@@samlerfwell let’s see in the last few months alone I’ve put out many of the reviews I’m most proud of for getting pretty darn deep into the books like Black Company, DCC, Sun Eater, etc,. Reading Left Hand of Darkness right now. We’ve covered a lot of news that required more research than I’d ever used to do. We’ve done an intro to fantasy video, Cosmere adaptation deep dive, advice on starting reading fantasy, abuse of an author, and several more heavier topics certainly worth discussion. There have been only 2 skits (which were quite fun to make), and less bookshelf roasts or firsts and lasts. Though I might make more of this if the desire strikes me. Writing advice? Well I do those after finishing another book to convey what I’ve learned. I’m about to really get into my next one Better Dead so more may be coming. Now, do you have an issue with me making jokes? Cause I hate to break it to you… that’s been here since the start and isn’t stopping. I make what I want to make and if you don’t like, I wish you the best and hope you find yourself capable of unsubscribing. 🫡

@@DanielGreeneReviews Do what you want. I'm glad if it's going well. All I can say is that the over the top goof humor many thumbnails seem to carry and that existed in this video, too, seems unnecessary. It's almost like the kind of humor board executives put in when they either talk down or mistrust the own substance. I wonder why you see the need for that when the videos of yours I brought up as an example required none of it to work. Constant key jiggling seems more distracting than useful. It's a style I've noticed with many youtubers, as if substance only works when paired with constant sound and video effects, references and zoom ins. But of course that's also a matter of taste and opinion. I'm happy if you're happy and certainly it's a great thing if you can inspire and entertain your viewers. If even just one person's day got better because of you there would certainly be value in that. All I can say is that I think is that such humor seems unneded when the information presented is relevant and engaging, as the channels I mentioned show. But, at the end of the day, I neither want to nor can demand anything of you, express yourself how you see fit. I gave my two cents and that's about it, nothing more or less.

Retelling a story from the other character's perspective works if there is more story to tell. Midnight Sun didn't really give up more, like what the Cullens do when Bella isn't around. They don't really do...anything. You would think something could happen, for example, when Jasper's former brother visits...but no.

Meyer contradicted her own storylines so much that it stopped making sense. Like…Alice can’t see anything with wolves, yet she saves the day at the very end by showing Aro a vision with the very wolves it was established repeatedly that she couldn’t see, but then suddenly could when Meyer didn’t know how else to get herself out of the corner she wrote herself into? And Jasper being specifically trained to hunt and kill people like James, then not doing it… The first book wasn’t a problem until…New Moon? I mix up the titles of t 2 and 3. But whichever is 3. She created continuity problems so many times that she’s a masterclass in making sure that multi-part series that will be released before the last is written are planned out at least enough to avoid major problems.

@@NoelleTakestheSky ok so not to defend SM too much but the vision with the wolves in Breaking Dawn doesn't happen in the books. It's just in the movies to add drama. I met Stephanie's son a few years back. She's Mormon, so is he, so is most of my extended family (I'm not). He was on his mission, and he settled in my grandparents' church. I was there when he did a visit to my grandparents' house, and that poor guy. My grandma is a PROLIFIC reader, and she had brought up the Twilight books to sit on the coffee table. All anyone would talk about was the Twilight books. Poor guy's mission partner couldn't get a word in edgewise. I was playing piano, as I often do when I visit my grandparents', and Stephanie's son recognized some Zelda songs I was playing, and we got to talking about video games. You could literally see the relief on his face that someone there did not care about the Twilight books HA. If even HE gets that amount of attention from it, I cannot imagine what Stephanie has to go through on a day-to-day.

Man, now I kinda want to read a book with the ideas you brought up. Knowledge addicted and jaded vampire at university learning to see people as more than annoying cattle/NPCs through befriending (I dont like romance plots alright) a girl whose mind he cant read but who keeps being very empathetic to everyone. Slightly "getting fixed by Quirky Girl" tbh but maybe she has issues she can learn to solve through his perspective on life - maybe she is a people pleaser who lets people walk all over her boundaries, maybe she realizes its ok to be selfish sometimes (which can be pushed in an entertaining/fucked up direction if he does Dexter-ing instead of drinking animals. Like come on, a jaded vampire who sees people as background characters? If he can justify it he would drink people. Not just killers, just people he determines arent important or who had thoughts that made him judge them to be better dead). Bella already shows hints of going along with human sacrifice (the Volturi tourist group), so maybe her deciding "its ok to be selfish" means her turning into a bad people hunting vampire... (Also I personally always wanted more of Leah and Seth Clearwater. The first female werewolf, bound in mind to her ex and a bunch of other guys, being judged as bitchy for not getting over her ex falling for her cousin, protective of her fellow werewolf brother, iirc member of the splinter pack in the end so there could even be more conflict there now that Vampires vs Werewolves has two parties of werewolves with different stances, evil vampires coming to town from outside, you could even push the humans into being another party (around Charlie. Charlie deserves a better role too). Its kind of impressive how many interesting ideas Twilight mentions or inspires and then just goes with the most boring one. As a teen for a time I also kind of wanted to write a troll fanfic where Edward and Jacob get tired of waiting for Bella to decide and end up dating each other

Im very much in a vampire mood currently (Dracula Daily and V Rising), so Im also thinking about combining Twilight with darker Vampire Lore aspects could be interesting. For example Dracula controlls wolves in some way - a danger for the werewolves perhaps, if a vampire with those powers were to turn up on the side of the Volturi. I never liked Twilight as a teen (too much romance), but I did read it (small local library sortiment of Urban Fantasy so I read any they had) and similar to Warrior Cats while it is not good itself its weirdly good at inspiring better ideas (and worse ones, but lets not remember THOSE novels).

When Meyer initially cancelled the book because a draft leaked and I heard about the classroom massacre fantasy I was intrigued by the Idea (they actually filmed a version of it for the film I believe but it ended up getting cut) Like leaning into him being a scary psycho could be interesting (he clearly breaks into her room and watches her sleep). Tho from everything I've heard the book isn't self-aware enough to lean into it non-accidentally (Daniel’s mention that they don't lean into Edward being eternally stuck at 17 makes me disappointed as it is the only sane route for vampire fiction that spends time in society) Poor Daniel tho hope he treated himself to something nice after going through it all. I tried to read a free sample of Twilight on my Kindle once and the first chapter made Bella so unbearable that I appreciate the team on the first film even more for elevating the material into something digestible (shame about the other films)

And of course they read the story of the brothers Grimm too… because it absolutely has to be a treasure to save. That went to the point where she got death threats on her KZbin channel in comments and her family and friends were bullied on social media for a while too. Nice isn’t it? 23:10 - I mean... you have to remember that Twilight exists very firmly within the *_Romance_*_ genre_ specifically, so the relationship between Bella and Edward is supposed to be the whole entire plot and the main focus of all the tensions/conflicts/etceteras; literally anything and everything else beyond or other than that is just a subplot, and a subplot is literally just extra garnishing that wouldn't even have to be in the story at all and you should kinda just be grateful there is even any of that subplot frosting ever to be found anywhere on the top of any of that main relationship/cake/ whatsoever. Lol

I've got to say, I found Edward's POV much more interesting to read than the rest of the series. The look behind the curtain you get of his powers along with Jasper and Alice's was pretty cool. I'd be happy to read more of the series from Edward's perspective. Not my favorite series or author. But definitely my favorite book of the series.

I mean...I've watched and read plenty of media that was considered 'bad' or 'just average' that I end up loving and remembering more often than the so called masterpieces. Sometimes you don't care how technically well something is written, you're just having a good time.

Okay I know how that feels but do you really apply that to Twilight? Do you enjoy the BOOK or do you enjoy talking about the book? I'm the target demographic but the first book in my opinion was so bloody boring. I read over half of it and just dropped it I think the worst thing a work of art can be is boring

For me, I honestly really enjoyed the series, flaws and all. I will say that I read Twilight itself last, since I read my sister’s set of the books and she’d lent book one to a friend that never returned it. Books two was pretty meh, but three and four were a blast! By the time I read Twilight, I already liked the characters enough that it was just fun to see where it all began. Even looking back on some of the worse elements, my fondness for the series remains untouched somehow, and the Twilight lore still randomly pops up in my imagination every few months. I can’t say the same about a lot of “better” books.

Regarding the "posing as teenagers, when they could pass as older" Allow me to quote the movies "the younger we start out, the longer we can stay in one place" Yes its a iffy explanation, but there is one provided by the story at least.
