Ah. You possibly could have got out of that ticket.... when they're saying 'sorry, we had to when it was right in front of us' it means they didn't have to and you have some room to manoeuvre. Anyone would have been confused in that situation. But time was when you would definitively have just gone straight rather than cut across lanes. Remember that it all goes in the experience bank, you should be way lower risk now than 10 weeks ago... Unless you're getting bored and lazy and complacent. That would be the issue.
