when you add oscillator 2 into the mix, set it’s “osc mod” to rng and boom, ring modulation on your audio signal. sequencing the notes can make some insane sounds
@bigbasil1908 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I didn't know what rng meant on my microkorg s. I also didn't know what LFO means but a few minutes ago it became glaringly obvious in my head - Low Frequency Oscillator lol. I'll master the controls on the microkorg, I just need to get familiar with all the functions

Also try and plug midi out from Korg to the midi in of your fav synth rack and control the filter (and more) from those synth racks using the micro Korg filter knob. Life changing!

Daniel Kastner New to the channel and already know I'll be browsing your library of content, thanks! Do you know if it's possible to use another mic other than the included cheap goose neck?
@DanielKastner6 жыл бұрын
Hi and thank you so much for checking in. It is absolutely possible to use a different mic. Just adapt to 1/4" or 1/8" and select the mic position on the switch for Audio In 1. You can go through Line in Audio 1 and 2, but you may need to boost the signal with something like a guitar pedal. Adapters can be found plenty cheap on Amazon, etc.

Very interesting, i've just bought a MicroKorg off ebay today, so obviously your channel is proving most informative. I did have a Korg MS2000R some years ago but stupidly i sold it, along with a few other modules that i since regretted selling, as you do. I bought the Minilogue last year and absolutely love that, it's the hands on manipulation that makes all the difference, rather than having to delve into numerous edit pages just to alter something. I also have a Korg Prophecy which is a nightmare to edit, same as the CS1x, although that isn't quite as bed. Was wondering if the external audio i send into the Minilogue can be kept rolling with the arpeggiator activated, as you have done with the Micro. As with this tutorial, you have to keep a key depressed to let audio through on the Minilogue, so maybe i'll check out if the aprpeggiator works in the same way. Nice one Daniel.

Use line out, not the headphones. Line out is low power, whilst headphones is higher power and might either damage your music device or cause bad audio clipping (distortion)

I've watched a few of your videos about using instruments through the microkorg but I keep having one issue off and on. Sometimes Ill fix it, save the patch and after the save I get it again. I definitely made sure to use latch, no attack and max release but I keep having to trigger the arpeggiator again because the volume gradually decreases. What am I missing?

Hey Daniel, I'm really enjoying your videos and learning a lot! I'm having some inconsistent results with running a drum machine through the microkorg...sometimes it works perfectly and other times not so much. I swear I'm doing the same thing to get started every time and I can't figure out what's going on. Most often the problem is that I can't make the original, unprocessed drum machine sound go away...its always audible even under the processed drum sound that comes when I play the keys or arpeggiate. Second, about half the time I hear the unprocessed drum but when I play the keys I still get the original synth tones. When this happens I'm unable to affect the drum sound with any of the knobs, it's just kinda there under the synth. Any help you can offer is appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for this tutorial. I am currently thinking about using the microkorg as a midi controler for other hardware synths, like an Arturia Keystep, but with 37 keys and a synth engine. What is your opinion on this? Do you believe the microkorg would actually qualify for that job?

Apparently not, but you can run something else through it like a sampler, and change the audio. Just can't save it as a patch

I got excited because I thought you meant actual instruments. A pad with buttons is not an instrument, it's a tool, but definitely requires 0 music theory knowledge to operate. Therefore, not an instrument.
@hazuinf4 жыл бұрын
I don't know where you've got that definition of instrument. You need no music theory knowledge to play a drumkit, would you say that's not an instrument?
@bigbasil1908 Жыл бұрын
I know virtually no music theory. I play guitar and I like to improvise. I play keyboard and improvise. I've improvised on pianos plenty in the past all through my life. Music is something you feel. You don't need to know anything about music to play music, other than know how to sing in tune or to play a melody in tune. You must unlearn what you have learned..
