Absolute JUNK printer. Lasted 4-5 months before it stopped printing black ink (with a half cartridge still full). Bought a new black cartridge and the printer still doesn't work (after 3 months, the printer was already skipping lines). This printer would make funny noises at night while being turned off (it would make noises every 20-30 mins all night long for MONTHS). Brothers makes JUNK printers and I will never buy one again!

Thanx for the great video. Looks like my next color printer. It seems really fast at printing. The only thing I didn't like was the placement of the USB and LAN ports under the cover rather than at the back or side.

Well, my black Canon MG5220 is completely dead after the B200 error that just won't go away no matter what troubleshooting I do. I'm thinking about getting this snazzy printer and I like how it includes a years worth of ink. Actually, I like the white color because it might make my room look a bit bigger and I'll be able to see any creepy crawlies that might get on it like spiders. My Canon also didn't have the auto feed intake to scan so scanning and copying was a pain in the butt. I have a feeling I'm going to love this new Brother printer!

@@lmaga1212 He hasn't posted a follow-up yet (almost a year since I asked) but I did go ahead and buy one. It's probably the best home-use printer I've ever had. My wife just commented not that long ago about how she enjoys being able to print without worrying about whether there's enough ink or not. She prints weekly meal planning sheets and random recipes, I print occasional documents for work, and there are kids schoolwork and coloring pages. I bought the printer on Amazon on September 9th last year and have year to buy more ink - we've never had the ink dry out or run out like all of our previous printers. The print quality is more than adequate, but I'm not printing photos or anything like that. And the ability to scan to, and print from, cloud storage services (dropbox, google drive, and OneDrive if I remember correctly) has been a nice feature, too. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll try to help.

@@freezinkansan If i just use this printer occasionally like once a week or maybe not even use it for 3 months do you think the ink will dry out? For occasional use probably a laser cartridge (printer) would last longer with out worrying about it drying up. What do you think?

New subscriber here. I bought this printer about two years ago and I did not know that it had some of the features you mentioned in your video. I can't figure out how to print using the NFC though. I got to the last step and I did not see a feature to print or go. So I gave up. I have an Android. In your demonstration it was so easy.

I've heard it said, this printer is not good for photos; question, If you were to use a quality photo paper and have the settings to the highest level of quality, how well of a job do you think this printer will do? It might also make an interesting review.

I've watched several videos on this printer now and no one actually talks about the longevity of the ink, or if it dries out due to minimal use. I'm tired of buying expensive replacement ink for my 10+ year old HP but am still unsure if these ink tank printers are worth the upfront cost.

The ink in this printer actually didn't make the 1 year mark. More like 9 months, but I'm also not a person who prints a lot. I've had some users who told me you can buy ink refill kits for this printer and it saves a lot of money but I've yet to investigate.

Excellent video.. . . THX!..... on an extra-excellent Printer, as mine is coming to local pickup on Sat. And I've watched enough youtube vids to learn how to re-ink like a pro, after I ran out of ink! AND IT does CARD stock so I get a lamina-tor, I can do bumper stickers, door hangers, etc at a fraction of the cost! YEA! If you have any pull with Brother, we need to get them to completely REPLACE their Inkvesment line, since most places, including Brother are completely OUT of these great printers! I sent this suggestion / comments to Brother yesterday! Thank you very much, know I have to shear this!

@@TechFit360 Yea, I can, now RE-Ink 3 times for less than $23 from one of the top net stores, and the vids showing how, step by step include resetting the counter, and drilling the small hole, inking ETC. Again thank you for that vid! And most others on same printer, don't tell ya to shake the black 15 times after re-ink! So thanks for that extra!

Kind of weird. I’ll explain the situation. In a normal brother printer, which I had (j2320) I was amazed how it works. So the ink cartridge, let’s say the WHOLE INK SYSTEM, has physical monitoring of how much Ink is remaining, so this is not like HP, where the cartridges have so much ink and yet the system tells to replace them. And their hella costly, but brother is the only brand who actually uses some real sensors to check the Ink level. What more is, the ink from the cartridges are transferred to the print head using pipes, today, all brands including HP, sell those printers as in the name of “Ink tank” printers or generic name is refillable ink printer. So modifying a normal brother printer into a CISS system, ( basically, means modifying ANY normal Inkjet printer into the “ink tank” system’) is very easy. As there are sensors and no “fake ink warning levels”...... So really interesting, because generally, Any “refillable ink tank printer” ALWAYS costs more than its competitor with THE same functions ( let’s say no fax no adf) but still always the ink tank variant costs more..... Weird, really weird but yeah.... And the ink tank systems, the have two kinda print head. HP and cannon went with the cartridge type print head, WHICH IS so sad to say, quite unreliable ( atleast HP) But cannon and Epson went for the permanent ink head system, brother, THEIR normal “cartridge” system printer has a permanent ink head too, or else there is no way it will work.

It would be helpful if you mentioned the ink capacity of the starter cartridges that come with the printer vs the capacity of OEM ink cartridges that are for sale to the general public. 'One years worth' is not a meaningful amount.

Are photo prints close ot exact to the original photos? My epson is so lame, I can see the tiny pixels and photos colors are not accurate. My 35 dollar canon has superior photo printing quality and that is disturbing.

i do not know about Brother but i already know i HATE my Epson EcoTanks after 4 months. Everything about it is a study in wasted effort. And when the Ink Pad wears out becasue of piss poor design it cannot be replaced. same story with Canon Tank Printers going by all the reviews i have seen. Both have a LITERAL self-destruct system built in, waste tons of ink if not used regularly and are Maintenance nightmares. Especially for Newbies.

For anyone thinking about buying a Brothers (especially this MFC-J995DW) DO NOT DO IT! Buy another manufacture. Brothers make GARBAGE printers! I bought this MFC-J995DW and it only lasted 4-5 months before it started making noises (on it's own) and it finally stopped printing black (with a half cartridge, then I bought a full one and it still didn't work). I actually used a hammer and busted the P.O.S. up and I will NEVER buy a Brothers printer again!
