Jesus Egg That Wept is one of the best Indie records of the 1980s. D Dax had a strong following in the 1980s she sold out concerts and her singles did well in the Indie charts. I remember reading about her in Mick Mercers Gothic Rock book she was part of the Bat Cave scene her style was a mixture of tribal/biker/silent horror films with hippy. She did quite a bit of T.V as well. Check out Cat House, Flash Back and Pariah, great songs.

Phenomenal artist... She was played in the Inland Empire goth club scene in Southern Calif in the 90's. The club would thump as so many of her songs are so heavily bass driven.. Got everyone on the dance floor...

Yeah definitely cut from the same cloth as Grimes. Both artists made albums from their home with no band. More impressive with Dax when you consider she had all the industry sexism and no internet back then. stillunusual.tumblr.com/post/78009993514/shine-fanzine

I love Dax. I've been listening to her for about 25 years now...but she only charted twice, and once was a cover. "Tomorrow Never Knows" #5 in '91, and Cat-House #19 in '89. Some talent is chart-unfriendly because neither of those are her best, in my opinion.

🍎🗽 I visited London in the summer of '83 hit alot of the clubs . . . Dingwall's (Elvis) , Camden Palace , Electric Ballroom (Shriekback) , Lyceum (Anti-Nowhere League) , others . . . and The Bat Cave !!! It was like two quid for a temporary membership. I think they opened at 11 and went pretty late . It was packed . Alot of alcohol going on . I wasn't dressed like the rest of the crowd of what appeared to be mostly regulars in their scene. It was interesting enough . I didn't know who Danielle Dax was at the time. For all I know she was in the crowd !

Hey yeah, walking in the valley of decision Hey yeah, reap all the wages of sin A big hollow man With a fistful of sham Came a-walking across the sea All leathery charms As he pinwheeled his arms And directed his gaze at me (He said) God will provide the way You read about it every day (I'm telling ya) All you gotta do is pray And furnish his house with silver (Chorus) Liberty's daughter Well primed for the slaughter A space where her brains had been All ribbons and curls She's a good hearted girl Broken by what she had seen (She says) Daddy don't you go away Stay with me and we can play (I'm begging ya) Do it just like yesterday And I can go home to Jesus (Chorus) (Chorus) A regular Joe Who had nowhere to go A space where his home had been A bombing religion A blight on the region To fuel a pious dream (And they said) God will provide the way You read about it every day (I'm telling ya) All you gotta do is pray And furnish his house with silver (Chorus)

I wish I could have seen Kate Bush live though. You know it's a sad world we live in now on what people believe is talent and beauty these days. Thanks for sharing.

Dear R4949 . Thank you so much for this. I used to DJ her music in a small Florida town Drag bar. Most of what i played was alt stuff for early 90's and most times people don't dance to Siouxsie or Lene Lovich and such. Next thing i know, my roommate turned me on to DD. All these years later, in 2020... flash forward to now and a FB friend of mine says her Father worked on some of these mixes. She and her husband do lighting design for stuff in London and abroad, but the World is so damn small, i believe it. I play this every day. Thank you.

Why wasn't she a huge star? The truth is, she never had a chance. Dax was her own woman, armed with her own personal visions and artistic pretensions, and unwilling to compromise either. Instead of assuming the Madonna-esque role of "pretty piece of meat" for mass consumption, Dax chose the more difficult, but ultimately more rewarding, path of artiste.
