Your husband posted this on some Reddit and I am so hooked. The way you demonstrate it without the client and your fingers move so smoothly is so relevant to my learning patterns. Thank you so much.!!!!!

Wow! Your instruction is TOP NOTCH! You not only give thorough step-by-step directions, you give the rationale for each! This helps it make so much more sense. Thank you so much 😊

I have taken a few community ed. pottery classes and would consider myself still a beginner's beginner. Your instructional tutorials are the best I've encountered-clearly articulated, excellent video perspectives, and a wonderfully empathic understanding of what can challenge or frustrate novice potters. Excellent, Danielle. You have a new online student!

Very nicely done. So clear, concise and well paced. Very easy to visualize what I need to do. Not it is time to give it a go with my grand daughter on her Super Pottery Wheel. Wish me good luck!

Thank you so much for this wonderful lesson! I started a potting class and the teacher had us using upper body strength and a bunch of complicated hand positions to center. We were all struggling and frustrated. I can't wait to get some time on the wheel with this new information! You're a fantastic teacher!

WOW. I love this technique. I just started pottery and am having a horrendous time trying to centre my clay. I have upper back and shoulder issues and find I don't have the strength to squeeze the clay and cone up and down. I go home at the end of the day in agony with horrible pain in back! I was ready to just quit. I will be trying this technique in class this week! Thank you so much :)

Did this technique helped you or you had to quit? I just started pottery and I have the same problems as you did.

You explains the steps very clear and detailed. When I first threw, I have the wheel's speed too fast during the pulling step, I had great difficulties to build the wall.

Very well done! Thought of your rationale at pottery class tonight, made a nice squared-off base because of this great tutorial. It always helps to have someone explain things the way you do; also was very mindful of the complete turn of the wheel to keep the pot even thickness. Much to learn! Thanks for the great teaching.

I'll be completely honest on why I took a ceramics class, I needed an ART credit and I thought taking ceramics would be a great way to get my credit plus meet single college girls in their 20's. Boy was i wrong i ended up in a class with a bunch of elderly retired ladies in their 60's and 70's. But i ended up with a hobby which i fell in love with.

Do you sell any of your work Tom ? or is it more for fun ? Iv been going to a pottery group for over a year now ,and only just summoned the courage to try the wheel- then got totally addicted ,i kept making duds then starting from scratch ,but eventually made a little bowl :-)

I am taking a Pottery Class.I am left handed but my teacher tells me that I must use my right hand in these same steps. You use your left.What is your opinion.She told us that in th eUs all the Wheels are made to use the right hand.She said in Japan tey are made to use the left.Again, what are your thoughts on this?
@marynelson44776 жыл бұрын
The Hummingbird Guide I am a professional potter. My wheel spins clockwise (it’s a Pacifica that will spin either way). Any wheel can be made to spin the other way with an adjustment of reversing the wires. You should find a teacher who can adjust to your needs. I have taught people to throw both ways. We lefties tend to be more flexible. You will throw better if you throw in a way that is natural for you. Good luck!
@stephanievanorden17655 жыл бұрын
Great question and response. Thanks. Fellow leftie!
@CaptMike5 жыл бұрын
I feel your pain. I can use either hand and my kiln came wire clockwise. Didf not even know the difference until I remembered we used another hand(left or right-can;t remember) in class. When I changed my wheel over to counter clockwise my pulls were worse until I got the hang of it. This is something I will discuss in class tomorrow.

Concerning your explanation of the origin of the term "throwing" a pot: I have read several explanations that harken back to the Old English word thrawan which means to twist or turn. Just another view.

You can do it, keep trying. Also, check out other potter's on KZbin. There are many ways to centering. This is what works for me, you might try another technique! Cheers!

Starts with a load of bollocksabout throwing a stick. 2500 years ago bearing technology wasn't that good! How about you throw the clay onto the wheel to make it stick Just a wild guess
