As a Dutch Defense player I've found this video absolutely incredible and instructive. The f pawn push, the laser-beam Bishop, the exposed King... Even though it was a Sicilian I was able to find a lot of parallels to my favorite Dutch ❤

And there is the Basman variation in the Dutch where Black plays Nh6 with the idea of f5. I use to play it. If the opponent plays de London in some lines Black will win a piece (e5+e4). It is an old idea of Michael Basman but almost ignored by modern books on the Dutch. I am a Dutch player too.

There are sayings to discourage chess players from putting their knights far from the center. Most notably, “a knight on the rim is grim” or “a knight on the rim is dim.” Both sayings mean don't put your knights on the edge of the board. Hahaha. Thanks Danya great vibes ! Hope that red liquid you were drinking was pinot noir. New Zealand surely has the best pinot noir red wine in the world with the highest levels of resveratrol, that can contribute to neurogenesis. Drink in moderation of course ! I usually drink 1- 1.5 glasses with my dinner only, 3-4 days a week. Helps me sleep easily and wake up feeling great too.

What are your thoughts on 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. Nf3 e5? If it's easier to equalize than in the Open Sicilian then I reckon ... Nc6 should be the best move independently of what line you play, since White cannot play d4 anymore and you still keep your centre pawns flexible.

Would your opponent in the earlier turns after you played pawn F5 been able to counterattack with pawn to G4 to break down the pawns around your king? It definitely is a lot riskier after they castled kingside, but potentially they could have looked to castle queenside and go for some sort of attack.

cool game, though as playing this line from the white side I must say that I'm quite happy when black goes 3..g6, I consider it bit of an inaccuracy, cause white gets improved rossolimo (f4 already played before Nf3) and against this Nh6 and f5 line, e5! is key move closing and gaining space followed by Qe1-g3, b3, Na4, c4! we can support e5 with Re1,Bb2 if needed and I think white has an edge

31:40 Daniel, Can you explain the queen trap after Bf6, Rg8 and Bg4? The white Queen can give a check on f7+ escaping right?

The Queen can get out to c4 with a price tag of -10 with the lichess engine. Assuming you get those moves in for free and white does nothing, after Qf7+ you block with the Rook to g7, Queen only has c4 to go to. That Queen is so far away from the defence of the king you might aswell consider her dead. After she moves you already have Bxh3 because the pawn is pinned. Followed up with Rxg2 or Qg8 threatening a bunch more stuff.

I only play fast formats- 3+2, 2+1 and 1+0 and my elo is 1800 for 3+2 and around mid 1500s for the other two categories. I play Sicilian as black and almost everyone plays open Sicilian against me. I find it interesting that you say at these lower, (relative to you), ratings that people aren’t playing open Sicilian yet because my experiences are the opposite. Funnily enough, I only started to play open Sicilian as white because of your videos, and I’ve been performing a lot better. Anyone else have lots of open Sicilian games when playing black despite being lower rated than Daniel in the speed run? I play on lichess, maybe that’s a factor…
