It’s super interesting to me how the fragrance tide has changed. For years, everything had it & those of us who have issues wished we had more ff options. Then it became bad. Now, I’ve almost seen it swing back from being demonized to some people on the Internet get hostile to those of us who want to avoid it. Personally, I don’t care what anyone else does. I can’t use any fragrance on my face because I have rosacea and it makes it worse, so I make a choice to avoid it. All I want is options for me AND for the people who like fragrance. I think Elf, Neutrogena, & Purito are companies who are doing a really good job of this giving 2 versions. Wish that were normalized.

I tried Kiko's Hydra Pro Matte moisturizer, I really enjoyed it for my oily skin - obviously it's hard to not have oils coming in the end of the day. But the thing is that it looks like that 1/4 of my grandma's parfum was there.

ive tried both. im usually sensitive to fragrance and cant use most moisturizers, but the water gel didn't cause any redness or burning, its honestly the best moisturizer i've used on my oily/dry face. as for the cream-gel, it felt very heavy and my face would produce so much oil. even using a small portion of the product left my face either super dry or super oily. definitely sticking to the water gel.

When using the gel cream, keep your skin a little bit wet, and remember to use lotion after putting on the gel cream. If we use the the gel cream with a dry face, the hyaluronic acid may absorb water that is already in our skin and left our face dry.

The fragrance issue is very real: I am 44 years old and skincare with fragrance did not affect me in my 20s or 30s, but at age 40……it sure did start affecting me and I also gained rosacea like most do. That’s when I went fragrance free and I have been VERY pleased and satisfied. Most likely it “may” affect you later in life/age. Fragrance free just plays nice 🤷🏻‍♀️and I love Neutrogena, Cerave, Eucerin, Curel, Hada Labo, Ambi, ZapZyt, Cetaphil, Vaseline, and CVS & Walgreens products.

Same with me Rosa, except in my 50’s. Had rashes, fissures, itching, etc. for over a year. Couldn’t even hug someone without breaking out. Then a dermatologist gave me a patch test and even he was surprised that I was allergic to both the fragrance categories of the test. So fragrance-free for me. Glad you found a better way for yourself :)

Yes. Same here. I love fragrance in my beauty products, but then...dun dun dun...I turned 50 and wham, my entire face, neck, and hands broke out in a rash. Had to go on steroids to get back to normal. Now it is fragrance-free for me. I don't like it, but that's what can happen.

I’ve been considering getting this gel for a while now, and I was reaaally close to picking up the fragrance-free, dye-free one thinking those were the only differences between the two, until you talked about the beeswax and the propolis! I had a patch test done this past year and out of 96 allergens, the ONLY thing I reacted strongly to was propolis! My doctor told me to avoid any product with beeswax in it and my silly self didn’t realise it could be sneaked into a gel moisturiser. I gave a cursory glance to the ingredients list and didn’t notice the beeswax, so were it not for your video and you specifically calling out the propolis, I would’ve spent money to give myself some continuous allergic reactions. 🤦🏽‍♀️ THANK YOU! Super informative and succinct breakdown.

The “regular” hydro boost feels so nice like you said and it works beautifully under makeup-it’s almost like a primer. They also make a version called “city shield” that has spf. It feels a lot like the non spf -maybe not quite as wonderful feeling but that’s to be expected. Why does spf have to not be something I love applying LOL.

I don't know how to explain. hahaha, but I like the current look of my face skin when I started to use this neutrogena hydro boost water gel compared to the hyaluronic acid that I used before. I'm prone to all kinds of ugly side effects from many products out there, but this one works really well for me, so I've been staying in their line of products. Others have made my skin blister badly, or gave me hives. I have a few permanent scars to prove it, so I'm always reticent to try new things. Keeps me humble, I suppose! Hmm another topic to think about could perhaps be the leeching of the silicones and synthetic beeswax into the environment? Silicone is said to not break down so easily, so it's possible they pollute the environment for a long time. I really liked the Water Gel and use it as my daily moisturiser but I've learned a bit more about sustainability and being environmentally friendly, and I'd like to make the switch to a different brand (not to mention Neutrogena is owned by Johnson and Johnson who have a slew of malpractice and unethical behaviour). I still have a halfway full tub though lol. I gotta finish that. I was already thinking of changing moisturisers because the smell is so chemical-ly and strong, but I couldn't find one that would evaporate/not leave a sticky residue. Still on the hunt for a new moisturiser. It's going to be difficult to find a brand that feels as nice as the Water Gel ;-;

I have been using Hydroboost Gel Cream for the last three months and so far, so good. It makes my skin looks fresh. I have acne prone skin and the Gel Cream does not sting my skin. I use it under a moisturiser and I also put a tiny amount near my eye area.

@@dkhalid5598 Fortunately, the Fragrance Free Gel Cream did not break me out even though I have very sensitive and oily skin. It is also labelled for 'sensitive skin'. It has changed the texture of my skin and my skin looks more radiant and plumper. Maybe it is better to do a patch test before to see if your skin reacts well to the gel cream. I know some people use it only for targeted areas where it needs hydration like for fine lines around the mouth or forehead. It is much better if you use it under a moisturiser as hyaluronic acid attracts humidity to be able to bind it to your skin. If you layer a moisturiser on top of it, it will attract humidity from your moisturiser to seal it to your skin. It will also prevent your skin from drying out further in winter times thus causing skin problems like acne. If you have acne prone skin, do not use the Water Gel as it contains fragrance.

I love the Stryvectin re-quench water cream. It's really a gel too. It's in a purple container with a light purple tint and fragrance. But it's a bit over my budget so I'll try neutrogena next. I'm 60 with no allergies to any products I've tried. But my main go-to's are Cetaphil night hydrating cream and any Cerave products just because of the price. Oh, and the Ordinary products too. Thank you for your review!

For me it’s not even an allergy thing but a smell thing. I literally can’t stand putting products in my face that have a strong smell to them. If it’s a subtle tea tree smell or subtle spf smell is one thing, but some of these Neutrogena products, although really effective, have the most unbearable smells in my opinion

I have to say, although I bought the one for dry skin, it's not enough for my dry rosacea-prone skin. *BUT* it is reallyyyyy good to put on after my topical medicated cream!! So I keep it for that :) (also because my usual moisturizer is by Olay and it contains niacinamide, works great for my skin, but I don't wanna mix it with the medicated cream because you never know).

I haven’t tried the gel cream version of this but I do have the Neutrogena hydro boost sunscreen (SPF 50) and the fragrance on that one is strong. I’m not even sensitive to fragrance but I personally think it’s too strong and would prefer it to be lighter. If the fragrance in the gel cream version of the moisturizer is anything like what’s found in the sunscreen, I can definitely see how that might be a turn off for some people.

👍 Thanks Dr. Sugai for embracing fragrance-free skincare products. I am also allergic to fragrance. Imagine if every facial product you put on has fragrance, say...cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, sunscreen...a minimum of 5 products gives you 5 different fragrances which can be overwhelming after a regular daytime skincare routine. Don't forget that the nighttime skincare routine products will have fragrances as well. I am glad manufacturers are aware of fragrance allergy, and provide consumers an option of fragrance-free products.

I feel like the fragrance thing is because of Hyram I have used the water gel before and at the same time I watched his video about Neutrogena, I felt so bad about having a Neutrogena product after watching his video because of his so called "reasons" from a "specialist", so his fans might be attacking the brand because of that video or just purely because of the fragrance But funny enough my skin is oily but absorbs cream moisturizer better than gel moisturizer

I used fragrance in skincare for so many years and then later developed contact dermatitis . It was horrible! plus I used the water gel and it gave me milia as well so I don’t like it but to each their own :) the biggest issue with fragrance/parfum in products is they don’t tell you exactly what’s been used which makes it difficult to duplicate but really you don’t know what you’re putting on your skin.

Your video is really helpful! I have been using neutrogena hydro boost water gel for a year now and yes it is so good for my skin. But I am getting a little skeptical now because of the blue dye. I mean nothing bad is happening to my skin it just the dye that worries me because I am not sure if there is going to be any side effects after using this products for the next few years… May I ask what is your take on this? Does dye matter in skincare products or no?

Okay so I just got them confused. To preface, my routines are very simple. I clean my skin with the hydro boost cleanser, then use the aqua pearl serum and then the hydro gel for the night. In the daytime I also apply sunscreen and makeup, depending on my mood. I love it, it's nice, lightweight, hydrating and overall for my personal skin, amazing. The Gel-cream was unexpected (Obviously duh). It was very firm. It would only melt with the heat of my skin so portioning was already a problem but I tried coating everything. Now, 20 minutes later, my skin feels so dry. Like I'm seriously considering applying more just to stop my face from feeling dry and warm. It might be great for others but not for me
