The person responded to that with "You need to stop saying that. It can feel very condescending cause i can barely draw a stickman. If your work is not good enough to be considered art, what does that make me?" Honestly that really shifted my perspective on my work and denying being good. Artist moment. There's a lot of ego involved in creativity. This means the fragile side of people is open and on full display. In order to avoid the pain of not meeting expectations of any sort, people will downplay everything they do. It's a fear of being hurt, so they "hurt" themselves first. Once an artist makes a work they feel truly good about, it takes honest to god courage to share it with others. At least because it's an ego thing, it can be overcome through personal growth.

@kingofbudokai2 ай бұрын
Humility has quite literally ZERO relation to thinking your work isn't good. Humility isn't a lack of confidence or a refusal to take credit for talent. As the age old adage goes, humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking OF yourself less. Acknowledging your actual talents isn't in conflict with being humble. You can be really good at something, be aware that you are good at it, and even verbally acknowledge how good you are at that thing, and you can still be humble about it. My best advice is to realize how low the bar is for other people to release their work. Obviously satisfaction with your work is part of creativity, but if you want your work to be more than just your work, it's gotta go out eventually. Criticism and reception can teach you a lot more than wallowing in rewrites can.
@briondalion2 ай бұрын
I would also add on to @heyitsgwen 's point, and release one of your works that you feel isn't at the highest standard, but you've worked on it enough to know that its not going to be a loss if released and people don't absolutely love it, but they like it, then you have a gauge of the bar that you've set that your other works you're putting even more effort into, will surpass that bar.

Sometimes the fact that you can be so relatable hurts. This is probably why you’re one of my favorite KZbinrs. 😁

this is amplified in self-judgement when you know you did a part wrong and the people complimenting don't know and when you tell them they think its fine but in that moment when you did that thing wrong, the self-insulting thoughts arise.
