You really killed it! I had no idea there were radiators with integrated mirrors. Mindboggling for small spaces.
@barbarar5869 Жыл бұрын
I know! I don't know about British homes, but in Ireland they sometimes place the radiators in the most inconvenient places! This is such a cleaver solution, even without the mirror it's just a better way to utilize the space.

Have you ever thought of using the computer table as a dining table? If he can attach the screen to the wall the table could be on castors to make it easier to move. I had an Ikea sit stand desk, but swapped it for a Flexispot E7 desk instead. The E7 adjusts in height from 58 cm up to 123cm, and has much more flexibility in table top sizes, so great if you want to use the sofa bed for seating, or as a normal desk or standing height desk/kitchen island. Base will cost around the same as a sit stand desk and separate dining table. You can get a custom top to fit your space.
@DanielTitchener Жыл бұрын
This is a really great suggestion! I wonder if you could fit retractable cord reels... 🤔
@hearvie Жыл бұрын
@@DanielTitchener you could do some cable management beneath and have it just have two one cable . Most tvs can power laptops and the speaker setup could be already attached and setup across the room like the TV. I'd actually be a nice set up
@theresabu30003 ай бұрын
@@DanielTitchener shouldn't be extremely difficult - I think you could splice in some extendable cable - or even add a extendable power strip beneath the table top, which would be multi purpose. Though you'd have to choose - either movable and add a shelf for permanent items (speakers, keyboard...) or have the option of standing desk (variable height). I personally do like the two table/desk option here though - two people have a desk if they want. Behind the spot where you have it now, could be a good place to hide some low profile folding chairs.
@katerinachristou711Ай бұрын
While watching the video I was also thinking about this idea. But because I'm working from home as well, I understand that it will be difficult to clean the table 2 times a day to have a meal. And I just want to have a 15-30 min break to eat and relax, rather cleaning the desk every time for plates etc. Eventually, everyone will end up with eating while working, like most of people does :).

Great and creative solutions for this space! But may I add, having lived in such studios for some time, that there is an element that could have been considered better in the design: everything is centered around the workspace, and the couch faces the work space. I would have done pocket doors and a closet to the ceiling with an opening for the computer screen-tv to hide the workspace so that the mind can rest from work or I would have orientated the couch towards the windows at 90 degrees. Keep up the fabulous work, I always get tons of ideas from your videos and love the computer animations!

As a Filipino Architect I find it much harder to design a Small spaces than a larger one because you need to maximise all the space and not leave a what we called “dead space”. Loving these kind of videos and thank you for showing how hard our profession is but at the same time fulfilling because we are designing solutions to our clients❤️🙌🏻🇵🇭

Thank you so much for sharing this, Daniel. Living in council property there are always things that we would rather were different because everything has been done as cheaply as possible, but it's amazing to see what can be achieved by someone who has the expertise and the imagination combined in a space this small. I personally appreciate you sharing these videos which are always entertaining and quite often very educational as well!

Excellent ideas for the space. If I may add some concerns, as the owner will work with partners in this little space, i would change the toilet into one with a little sink included in the upper part. That’s something we got delivered, it was not expensive and relativly easy to exchange with the one in place. But it was heavy. Upper behind, we add a half shelve for the soap and a large hook for a towel. Also, a diswasher in the kitchen seems quite necessary, when there is a little team..unless it can become quite smelly from the breakfast/lunch if no-one has time to wash the pan/plates.. And maybe there is a way to find the space for a wash/dryer machine in the bathroom so that it can run during the day without bothering the work. (Many appartment buildings do not allow washmachine noises for neighbours evenings, nights and sundays. After his workday in the same room, maybe the owner will not enjoy so much the washmachine noise after a couple of months.. )

I love the outcome of this redesign, and I always love your enthusiasm! I have the Norden gateleg table and I quite love it; an option some may like is to use sliders under the legs to move it around (instead of wheels). This keeps the height of the table perfect for working on a laptop while sitting in a regular folding chair. To be fair it's not super easy to slide even with sliders, but not real difficult either, and if you're not moving your table around every day, I think it's a great option. I like how your videos encourage us to think differently about how we use space, it can open up great possibilities!

I really like how you change that space. Even though those are not mine favorite colors the functionality seems great. I know standing desk can be great, but existing table look great - one of the best tables I have seen recently XD I think you might have lost some storage for books etc (previously there was kallax unit), so I would add (shallow) bookcase in front of the cabinet with fridge - facing the living room. I am writing this under every video with Norden: please remember that wooden one is really made of wood and white one if made of chipboard - so if you would like white one you can find cheaper option if your local Lidl sell furniture from Livarno Home line - there is white folding table and last time it was in stock (in Poland) it was half the price of Norden. Also: not sure how it is in other countries, but in Poland there is a lot of Ikea furniture available second hand in Internet - so you can find perfectly fine pieces for fracture of original price.

I have that daybed. When I have guests its not very practical as a sofa without the extra back support... i watched this vid a while ago and went to Ikea to try out the outdoor and the slightly more expensive indoor cushions for a modular sofa that you used on another video. If you have the budget, I recommend the more expensive option (apx.20 pounds extra), much better in terms of back support and providing a real sofa feel. In my current set up (a micro studio in a HMO) I'm using it more as a bed so am just using pillows and throw cushions for a sofa aesthetic when not in use. When I move to a bigger place I will need it to perform as a sofa, so I'll be getting the sofa cushions. This Is a great Ikea hack, Thanks!

I really loved this video as every aspect was looked at very intelligently. There is one aspect that could possibly work better and may be more affordable. He has a projector so actually setting up that projector on the wall above the couch and a screen in front of the setup that is able to go up and down could be a really good cost effective way to have a large tv. The speakers could even still be used as many home theatres have their speakers behind the screen.

It would be great to add some units like you had in your small apartment under the window - were they Besta? Make them seat height so they could be used for seating at the large dining table. On castors they could be moved around. And they would also provide extra storage. And I guess it's boring to keep using the same items, but I adore the coffee / dining table you had, think it might have been from Dwell. It is such a clever piece of furniture with multiple uses. However, I get that you would want to come up with lots of different ideas for people to enjoy!! :)

I absolutely loved the design, you taked advantage of every single sqr cm off that flat. Only thing that I would have changed, as a lighting designer myself, it's those spotlight fixtures in the kitchen area, although those are cheap, it will not provide a good light for cooking or other chores in the space, because they create a lot of harsh shadows. I would invested in a linear type of fixture, whith some LED strips and difuser for a more well distributed light in the space.
