To play this with such lightness, wit and humour - this is a real gift. Bravo !!

I really like this performance - live. I don't know which concerto he played prior to this, but obviously it was a pretty big one judging from the size of the orchestra. So - encore time and maybe everybody's expecting the Mephisto Waltz or a Rachmaninoff Prelude - so he starts playing this and you can hear a little gasp of surprise right when he starts. Totally elegant performance of a piece that's really much more difficult than it sounds - and his bringing out the little countermelodies (around 1:35) remind me just a little of Horowitz - kind of "you may think you know this piece, but have you heard this little bit right here?"

This is maybe the only performance I've heard that I've enjoyed as much as Rachmaninoff's, and I think it exceeds Rachmaninoff's in beauty. It is not easy to play with all of those doubled notes and hidden lines, and certainly not easy to play as cleanly as that. Rachmaninoff's transcription are, I think, the best of their era because Rachmaninoff was that very rare breed who was both a first-rate composer and a first-rate pianist (most were great pianists but not great composers), and this is one of the best of the set.

+Michael Brenner You say "not easy". I don't believe Trifonov knows the meaning of "difficult". The man's a genius but a genius with a poetic lyricism which must surely be unique.

It's a great shame he didn't do more transcriptions

How difficult is it to play like he does ? Well, this perfomance is incredibly genius!

It takes a little more than 20,000 hours at the piano. 😳😅

I don't think I know what grade this would be in, but I would say that it's substantially more difficult than the Mozart. From a pure technical point of view, it has several difficulties: L.H. leaps, scales in thirds, and a need for pretty big hands (like a lot of Rachmaninoff), articulation and bringing out inner voices; if you look at his hands around 1:54 on, you can see (and hear) a lot of pretty big chords played pretty fast. Still definitely worth working on; it's a beautiful arrangement.

Wait a minute; this the same orchestra with which Danill played the Pagini Concert! Where did this come from?
@mcoldewey11 жыл бұрын
It's a lot harder than it sounds; it's difficult to play and keep the voicing in line.

I can hack my way through it but his voicing, nuance, and textures are insane.
