You said your mom nearly cried listening to those headphones, bless her soul! And this reminded me. I was interviewing for a position @ Meze Audio back in November of '23. When we finished the interview, I asked one of their engineers to be a dear & help with a listening session. At first it was "Ok, I never listened to anything like it" and I'm basically driven by analogue sound & quality. When the engineer gave me the Elite and said "you need something with soundstage" he immediately chose Queen's Love Of My Life live at Wembley '86. Unbeknown to him, I should have a Fallout character clearly named after my passion for this band. Brian started playing the guitar, it already started sounding promising. Clearly the hairs on my arm started responding. When Freddie started singing, given the fact that it sounded like it was a one on one live session, I told the guy I needed to sit (luckily, I found a chair immediately) and, just like your mother but surpassing her reaction, started producing tears in significant quantity. THAT was the moment I've really decided I'm ready to move some 600 km+ and work here. They, and I'm talking about the entire product lineup, are THAT good. And I'm now in Baia Mare working at Meze Audio, have never been happier.

Fun fact: The Stax have such a high impedance (the amount of power required to run them), that they're not measured in ohms. They're measured in **kilohms**. "Good headphones stay good" As a noob in audiophile but took a long shot buying Grado SR60e and Fiio F9 Pro both secondhand recently, I can vouch for this. Yes they're not 40 years old, probably 5 top, but honestly the only thing that aged is the pads/bud bits. But even those should be fine for good headphones under 20 years, and proper maintenance (in this case I'm sure if you can buy secondhand, the previous owner would be cautious with the cans). As for the sound.. well, I can't not use them everyday.

I didn't even consider getting a pair off 99's as the last I checked they where nearly £200 on amazon.
