i mean the US player is kinda silly, but HOI4 naval needs another major rework imo. heavy cruiser "meta" should not be a thing. hosting 1k naval bombers on an island historically could only handle a handful of aircraft should not be a thing. HOI4 navy needs another overhaul to get a closer match to historical reality.

The first ever multiplayer game I played as Japan, I destroyed 326 light cruisers and 1 battleship with 1 heavy battleship, 16 subs, and 40 naval bombers. And I still don’t know how to this day. I melted America’s navy with half a cheap island defense fleet.

I’m confused by the ship designs he made. A heavy cruiser with only 1 gun and no other modules? Same for the destroyer? Why go with this template; is it just so cheap you can spam them out and overwhelm the enemy?

The way I understand the naval gameplay (and I could be wrong since they are using a mod) having fast ships lowers their hit profile, this stat is pretty much meta and very strong. This is also the reason why trade interdiction is strong for main fleets since it lowers visibility and hit profiles for your battleships. So he stacked cheap and fast ships which would be hard to hit while having the necessary Hard and Light attack to just obliterate the US fleet. How the US got outproduced 3:1 on destroyers no matter the template is a whole other meme though.

@@christian9125abd True, why he decided to invest so strongly into Heavy cruisers instead of just spamming light attack CL's (with the same 1 Engine 1 IV Cruiser gun) is something I don't understand, but it could have to do with the mod they are playing. As others have stated though, this whole naval battle was blursed to begin with, what with he storm and a carrier fleet merged with subs and all. I don't even know how bad overstacking must have been for the US carriers too.

@@nocookies2014 yes. Even a handful of naval bombers sunk 4 carriers in a matter of moments at Midway. 1000 would be nearly impossible to defend against.

@@jasonli2474 That "handful of naval bombers" was what got through out of hundreds of carrier and land-based sorties thrown at the IJN carriers, and which suffered very heavy losses in the process. Carrier battles in general resulted in massive casualty rates for pilots, as did land-based air attacks against fleets. Oh, and the Japanese regularily throwing dozens to hundreds of airplanes at them failed to sink a single Essex-class CV.
