I believe every francd that has ever been asked to surrender has considered it a victory. Then they get to do their government in exile stuff too. There is no reason to end the game in 40 just because france won. they can easily continue to play and acknowledge france won.

I get wanting to play the historical timeline (more or less), but I hate it every time a France holds and it gets Admin'd to death in multiplayer lobbies, both in ones I play and ones I watch. If Germany can't break France without admin help, that means that Germany is rarely going to be worthwhile _after_ the admin intervention. It just delays the result we were already seeing: Germany loses. I'd always rather see the Axis get slapped off the face of the Earth when France holds and for the 1960s to come early with a NATO-SSSR War instead. I can almost guarantee that it'd be more interesting to see the Comintern fight against the Allies than seeing an anemic Germany get stomped in 8 months because they used up all of their strength to not even budge France and then desperately try to play catch-up in time to die to the 2-front a few years later. But the HOI4 MP community _loves_ the classic timeline, so I'm sure HOI4 as a game will die off entirely before I ever see the MP community make that paradigm shift. I love the historical play, because it gives us a sense of reference for how things should be going, but I wish more MP games would just let things play out instead of intervening to "get back on track".

you dont get wanting to play the historical timeline and have clearly never played with people good at the game. the point of the historical timeline is so that the challenge is to create a build that fits best into a preset scenario (war times and enemies), not larp or anything like that. having games where germany cant break france devolve into allies v USSR ruins that. and more importantly its even easier for the allies to beat the USSR than the axis, so it wouldnt be fun for anyone.

Not really. Japan has to be really good, and France has to be not good. Japan lost their entire Navy to 12 Dutch submarines, and France was gigachad this game, so yeah Axis were doomed.
