This thing has bells, horns, and a variety of flue pipes. Astounding - and beautifully tuned. I'm impressed.

This thing is magnificent. The music it makes(which has been shown on other channels here on KZbin) has helped inspired me countless times. I never knew I could love an instrument, but my heart yearns for this musical marvel.

@CBF110 күн бұрын
It was estimated at Morphy's between 800 grand and 1.2 million. However the 38er Ruth from the Milhous collection, where THIS organ too once resided, sold for 3 MILLION at the Milhous collection auction by Sotheby's nearly 13 years ago. If that's not the most expensive price ever put on a band organ, it is one of THE most expensive prices ever put on a band organ.

Amazing instrument, I' ve heard this lovely Waltz in a Christmas disc of Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians. It's marvelous the sound and the ensamble of the percussions, organ and Wind instruments.

That was in the Milhous auction as it used to live in the Milhous collection(Boca Raton Florida). The 38er Ruth that the Milhous brothers also had I think sold for 3 times as much: 3.1 million. Probably the most expensive price ever put on a Ruth band organ.

There is another Gaudin 114 key organ similar to this, but this as enlarged in a restoration by Verbeeck to 125 keys, new ranks of Verbeeck pipes were installed, along with a REAL carillon. This is probably the only band organ to ever have a carillon with it.

What a marvelously sweet and versatile organ. You don`t normally expect sweet and big on the same machine. It can shout when it wants to, but unlike a Gavioli on the VB scale, it goes for a musical balance rather than a "Look and listen to me", sound.It`s a bit pricey though !

This was originally a Gaudin dance organ. This larger type of organ was originally used in dance halls, brothels and similar establishments. They were not designed to be travelling organs. There are still a few genuine large Gaudin dance organs around, mostly in museums. At least one has been reduced to 98 keys, but some are still using their original larger scales. The auctioneer is correct, in a sense, when they describe this instrument as unique, because it is the only large Gaudin which was gutted and turned into a 125 key Verbeeck organ. It sounds fine, and should last for many decades, if cared for, but don't buy it thinking that it is a genuine Gaudin. Most of it is not an antique. Especially not the MIDI system.

"Gaudin"........built by Verbeeck.
@RWBHere4 жыл бұрын
Not a bad sounding Verbeeck organ though. They have done far worse with some of their -rebuilds- conversions. They are far too cheeky, selling a Verbeeck masquerading as a Gaudin. I only hope that the buyer knows that they are not purchasing the real deal.

@@RWBHere Church organ builders also do that. Whenever they were called over to enlarge organs built before 1800 they would often rip out a lot of or all of the original pipes and replace them in addition to adding more pipe ranks. Many English organs have been victimized to this. King's College's 1605 Thomas Dallam organ may have been stripped of all of it's original pipes as early as the 1640s(English Civil War). Apparently there are a couple of 1600's pipes in it(according to King's College?) but the case may be all that's left of the Dallam parts. Exeter Cathedral's 1665 John Loosemore organ also got the same treatment, but because it was built after the Civil War I am not sure if it's lost all of it's original parts besides it's case. Gloucester Cathedral's thankfully didn't: Their organ is actually 2 ORGANS connected to the same keyboard. The smaller case, the first organ, dates to around 1640 and the larger case between 1660 - 1680. Apparently around 200 original pipes remain per a video on KZbin by the cathedral of their organ. Westminster Abbey's 1720 Christopher Schrider organ also got it really badly. William Hill first modified it in 1848 and then Harrison & Harrison ruined it in 1937 for King George VI's coronation. The case was built in 1895, and I'm not sure if any Schrider parts remain. Harrison & Harrison have had a habit of ruining entire church organs or at least extremely modifying them in extents to which there are not as many original parts as there used to be. If Verbeeck butchered old organs and took all of their original pipework out I can see why Rory(Carrousels and their Wurlitzer's) called Johnny Verbeeck a crooked man. Ruining historic or antique artifacts unnecessarily is fucked up shit.
