Quick review of the Danner Vertigo 917

Your excitement about these boots is totally justified. They are a fantastic blend of rugged and urban styling cues that can perform well in a range of situations. They take forever to wear out, too: I got my first pair about 5 years ago, they get worn a couple times a week easily (except in the peak of summer), and are only a little worn down at the heel. I love them so much that I've slowly added two different variants to my collection, with a fourth still-in-box backup for that original pair (the charcoal color). They are relatively expensive, but that can be minimized by waiting for one of Danner's occasional sales. And even at full price the long-term value is *very* good.

By the way you ever thought about just getting those re-soled? I live in Oregon really close to Portland That's where these Danner boots are made I was thinking about just going into their outlet checking some stuff out... 😁

Yeah, you should definitely check out their stuff if you’re close by! Unfortunately the 917 is listed as “Non-Recraftable” on the Danner website. Otherwise I’d totally do it!

Hey thanks for the review. I'm going to get the 917s for Christmas just the nubuck lighter seude brown. I'm just curious how they'll hold up versus the ones you have you know going with the suede.

Thanks for the comment! Those lighter brown suede 917s look great! I feel like Danner uses pretty good quality leather so they should hold up well. Although I’m not sure how the treating process would work on them.

Probably too late to help, but: I've got this boot in both smooth leather and suede. They both hold up extremely well in terms of construction and durability. The difference is in how the surfaces wear, really. Suede shows fewer of the scuffs, chips or ripples that accrue on smooth leather. On the other hand, my suede pair does have some mild oil spots and stains (I get dramatic in the kitchen, I guess). I clean and recondition the leather pairs at the beginning and end of the colder season, which rejuvenates the surface appearance.

@@pktsqr I ultimately decided to get the smooth leather like in the video. I have some timberlands that are lighter suede so I didn't want the same boots. But thanks I appreciate the response. I bought a kit with them. To keep them in good shape.

How is the size?

They fit pretty true to size. I wear a size 10 in all my shoes including these boots. No need to size up or down.
