I’m pretty close to stink bug ground zero and just sealing a tiny crack around a window stopped them from getting in my apartment. I used to get dozens every fall. Nothing like waking up with a stink bug in the sheets with you or crawling on the wall next your head! I would gently grab each one with a tissue and take him to a water park (the toilet).

Back in the 70’s my dad, who was a forest entomologist, made several trips to Belize to work on different projects with local farmers. They were having major problems with something killing their citrus crops, which grew in areas cleared out in the middle of the jungle. He set up a trap in the jungle that was basically a large, back-lit white sheet designed to attract insects. The main problem he had with this trap was finding guides to take him into the jungle at night so he could set up his traps. At any rate, he caught a lot of insects and determined that the insect killing the citrus trees was- you guessed it- a variety of stink bug. Nice job on the trap, may use it in my attic studio.

I had an unfinished 40 by 32 wood shop. Stink bugs invaded covering the walls. I used the smoke insect killer that you put a bit of water in than leave the building. Added two fans to move air around. The next morning every flat surface was covered with dead bugs. A day later the floor was cleared of bugs. I looked behind a pile of wood to find bug parts. The mice had a feast. The mice were next.

But they live in your attic and walls..you will find many behind curtains as they love the light...and the whole house has a funky odor.. Stink bugs and mice ..they have got to go.. and pest control does nothing more than we can do. I bought 4 ozone lights that I run on high for 60 minutes in the cellar anytime. But in our living areas or garage I run them only when we aren't home. Mice and bugs do not like ozone.. I'm hoping they leave for the neighbors homes.. stay out of mine.

Thank you, great video. I had to take a couple of breaks watching this because they turn my stomach. I see them more in the spring when they want out after wintering where, thankfully,I don't see them. I think they get in the depression where the carpet meets the south facing wall. I avoided Home Defense inside, except when desperate, and because I heard most insecticides don't affect them(?). They make me desperate.

Try Clove Oil and water In a spray bottle. The oils stick to their outer bodies of any insect. Stink bugs and spiders, mosquitoes, done... just spray early or mid spring. Then spray after a hard rain.. if you spray to much you will see a collection of reddish water if you have a sliding doors to a deck. However, you will see the results in that same water. And the scent of cloves potentiates a proximity or barrier from your entrances.

I don't let traps do all the work, I hunt down the suckers. I'm practically a member of the EDF. I got a whole arsenal of tools, a cricket cage fly swatter boomCo blaster extendable hand duster, and my most recent addition. An electric squirt gun. Then, I mix up some dish soap and white vinegar in a bucket of warm water. Any I catch in the cricket cage get dumped in the bucket. The boomCo is able to kill them up close if in an unreachable position like a crack. The fly swatter can smack them off window screens and gutters among other places. And lastly, the duster and squirt gun are for dislodging stink bugs from high places no other tool can reach, in the hopes they will land within my range. I do that for a couple weeks and end up with thousands of them dead in that bucket. Not very practical I know, but somebody's gotta do it. To save our mother Earth from any alien attack! From vicious giant insects who have once again come back! We'll unleash all our forces we won't cut them any slack. THE EDF DEPLOYS!!

As a 12 year pest control veteran, I endorse this video. Talstar P has a cheaper equivalent called Bifen I/T, or even the Compare N Save bifenthrin concentrate is even cheaper than that. Home Defense is the same price as the latter mentioned product but is called a ready to use vs a concentrate. Only use 1 oz per gallon as bifenthrin is a repellent. Used outdoors bifen or talstar will last 3 months and is the stuff pros use.

For years we had a horrible stink bug, and ladybug problem. One year I raised chickens. Not many, and I make pets out of them. But since I like to hold and pet them and spend time with them I began noticing that they absolutely loved stink bugs. The next spring I did not have as many bugs, and each spring there were less. Chickens did not like the lady bugs but I suspect that they ate the larva and eggs as the lady bugs disappeared also. Also have not had a flea problem.

Yes, but spraying hundreds (possibly thousands) results in cleaning up soapy, wet, dead rotting stink bugs. The soapy water becomes part of the mess. Localizing the substance that kills them and letting dry, adhered to the fabric (it’s not a volatile compound), paradoxically exposes us to much less risk. We pick up the aluminum tray and dumped it periodically.

I live in Fl but traveled for work all over. We have stink bugs in Fl, you see them in the garden etc. BUT, I was in PA in the fall one year in my travel trailer. Those damn things were swarming! They were everywhere. Inside outside, just hundreds. When I got home and was cleaning the trailer there were groups of them hibernating under cushions, in cupboards just everywhere. I’d never seen such a thing. I vacuumed them up in a shop vac and sprayed them so they wouldn’t escape. They could fit in any crack or crevice. Unbelievable.

We did something similar for a flea problem. Used a metal round cake pan. My husband used some scrap wood to make an "X" to rest in top of the pan. At the crosspoint he put a short dowel. Onto the dowel we inserted a cheap Dollar Tree light (just the top part, not the stake). Put water with a bit of soap in it. Placed the whole assembly in various locations throughout the house. Lights came on automatically at night. Fleas dropped in and drowned. Also put flea protection on our one cat who was a magnet (and allergic) to fleas.

We have them here in SW Ohio. Seems that a late freeze, early-mid May here, really knocks down their numbers during the subsequent late summer/fall. Although it doesn’t kill them, I found that washing down the house siding with a mild lavender soap solution using a pressure washer significantly reduces the numbers hanging out for at least a week or more (assuming no significant rain).

Looks like they are looking for a place to overwinter and want back out in the spring from what I'm seeing. Probably the same for Box Elder bugs which is a big problem.. Certainly in an old farm house there is no way to keep them out so they must be trapped and killed. Currently I've used old medicine bottles to scoop them up from windows and walls with no stink.

Just remember to remove the screens when the tempertures drop below freezing for the winter , as the water vapor from the exhaust will freeze to the screen , causing the furnace to not run .

We got rid of the two full grown trees in our front yard because we wanted to put on solar panels (they created too much shade for panels to be effective), and the stink bugs were jumping from the trees to our house. Never got the panels. Still have stink bugs. We’ll try your idea.

Yes. It’s just a miracle chemical. Decimates fire ants. If you spray the perimeter nothing gets in or dies shortly after entering. And it LASTS for months. We make sure Sage isn’t out when spraying and give it a good chance to dry. It doesn’t have the knock down that other chemicals have, but wow, is it effective!

I've tried a variation of the bright light/pan that has water in it instead of pesticide, which is marginally effective. Terminix can't stop them either... here in SW VA they are really bad. I just ordered a gal of the pesticide- we'll try it. Also, we ID'd a possible entry point on the fireplace wall exhaust vent and are installing a stainless steel mesh screen. What a PITA.

I have tried the bottle trick where you cut the clear water bottle and flip the top over use electrical tape to completely cover the whole thing but most important put a lil round light in there so you can stick an ink pen in the opening to push on the light to make it come on and push it to make it come off so if you try that don’t forget to put the little round led light ( dollar store ) in there before electrical taping it up. The only thing I haven’t tried is what you’ve done and spraying inside the plastic bottle w ortho

Remember, they are trying to overwinter and they are attracted to light, but when given the choice they will move on. You might not know how many you killed, because they landed and then flew onto their goal. On a porch, screen porch, carport, or inside they are almost guaranteed to visit the trap if it’s on and low light/dark. Once they land they will eventually die. Hope that helps.

Yes. This keeps the insecticide localized on the cloth. In the few comments on the toxicity potential one should recognize it has a low toxicity to humans, pets and other higher mammals. Even that is mostly limited to the liquid application phase. This is used in kitchens, veterinary clinicians, etc… once it’s dry on the cloth surface it’s not mobile and doesn’t release to the air. Using it on the perimeter of the greenhouse would still be effective for some pests.

Only method I know of, is investing your time using a shop vac to suck those stinky pests up and leave them in the vac till their dead. You can usually suck them up by the hundreds if not more on a outside wall where the sun heats the wall. I’ve even found them by the hundreds hiding under the cushions on our patio swing! Any place they can find to stay warm that’s where they hang out.

We use Neem oil and Castile soap diluted with water to spray the bad bugs directly. You have to be careful and use it only near sundown when the bees leave in your garden for the night. The oil and soap residue doesn't harm plants, and it only works with a direct spray on the bug. 1 teaspoon neem oil, 1/4 teaspoon castile soap, 1 quart lukewarm water. Mix well and fill up a spray bottle (or pump sprayer). I wouldn't use it directly on produce you'll eat like kale, spinach, or salad greens since the soap is pretty difficult to wash off. But it works wonders on plant leaves you don't eat - plus if you're going to peel produce like squash and cucumbers, or peel off outer layers like cabbage - the soap residue isn't an issue.

@@karalinell9736 I used a Sylvania battery powered puck light from Home Depot and aside from that, I made my trap EXACTLY according to the video and have killed 0 bugs. I finally got tired of watching the one bug that I did see actually land on the pillowcase, so I sprayed it with some permethrin. Besides the light, the only other possible difference I can think of would bed that it isn't absolutely pitch black where I have the trap. It's dark enough where you could certainly sleep, but not quite like you're in a cave. The puck light is SIGNIFICANTLY brighter than any light possibly spilling into the area.
