Having a signature style/sound does not mean he's using the "same old formula". Danny Elfman is a phenom.

Sharon Alexander lol, no he is not a "phenom". This guy is below average among his peers. He just has connections in a business that is more about luck and timing than it is talent. I would rate Trevor Rabin way higher than this guy. Trevor Rabin is certainly no John Williams either. + oingo boingo was absolutely silly.

Thank you for responding...well, we can agree to disagree...I did hear many years ago that some of his peers snub him because they don't believe that someone of his musical background could possibly move into the success in scoring he has had unless he was was stealing other's ideas, or using ghostwriters. How utterly inane. He is self-taught in so many different things that most people have to learn through specialized schooling (I've lost count of the musical instruments he plays!) To me, it sounds like these peers are a little envious because certain things came easier to him...and Danny doesn't have a monopoly on connections & luck. As for Boingo being "silly", the songs that were silly were intended to be. Those that were not, were not.

Sharon Alexander Elfman is not bad, but there are much more talented people past and present. Talent only gets you so far. I'm sorry I just don't hear what is so special here. I know people who have never released a record that can compose better stuff than this guy. I have friends that are more talented. Success in the music biz comes down to opportunity and lots of ambition, end of story.

All these comments about him being stingy...it *was* 14 years ago that this was recorded! Pretty sure he's gotten a new computer by now.
