Then in Season 14 Episode 9. Joe says he's a Hill. This scene, he said, he's Reagan. I don't know, why they've him saying he's a Hill in last season of Blue Bloods. I guess the writers forgot about what he said in this episode. I believe this is Season 12 Episode 20. The video clip.

Has to do with static electricity. You know how when you touch a metal door handle, or anything metal, you sometimes get zapped? Well, a zap right there, could blow the bomb up, and them with it, so the idea was to ground himself, and discharge any static electricity, before he touched the blasting cap. However, it's Hollywood. Just touching dirt won't ground anything. The principle is accurate, but the method shown is pure Hollywood.

It was to discharge any static he might have developed. If he didn’t do that the slightest spark would have ignited the blasting cap.
