This is the only vid so far that made the distinction between easy and hard. I’m stuck at the end of hacienda del tiempo at the double shell jump. My problem was that I kept alternating between the methods (and that I straight up can’t do the advanced yet, ofc). Also-I didn’t know about the easy method, but in hindsight, I was always doing it. I’d watch tutorials and they’d all say to never let go of jump, but I was pretty sure I was ALWAYS letting go of jump and it was still working. Now I know better, so I can try to train the easy method out of me.

I went into this a bit skeptical about whether or not I could actually pull this off, but sure enough, I booted up SMM2, gave it a shot and it worked. Thanks for keeping it easy to understand. I think this simple method will suffice for my purposes, as I have no intention of touching anything kaizo-related.

I got it man, thanks a lot, first shell jump! I figured out that my problem was getting into a habit of being able to press B and release Y when I was so used to never releasing Y, my fingers were just not having any of it! But when I was able to keep holding B, I got the advanced method really easily. Now my next goal is to beat Panga's shell jump tutorial!

Just did my first easy method shell jump... The hard one is tougher because releasing the run button but keeping the jump button pressed is a little harder to get used to. I'll keep trying though. Thanks for the explanation though, that will help me understand what's happening when pros do it, and I'm sure that'll help me get it too!

I used this tutorial to learn the shell jumps in the bonus levels of Kitsune Tails. I completed the first kaizo this evening using the basic form, but I'm still stuck at the start of the second, which starts demanding the advanced. I am getting it a little bit, so I think I will have some technique down in a few days.

For those who are also on that grind, day 2 went a lot better. I just practiced the first kaizo level again and learning the advanced technique. Something that helped me get my control uncluttered was to try standing still with no shell and alternating "A, A+B, B, B+A, A" so that I was learning to make the button presses more independently. Ordinary Mario jumping has the emphasis on holding down B while controlling A while shell jumping is holding A while controlling B, so you have to slow down and unlearn a little bit before you can add this technique.

Got through my bottleneck. I can shell jump enough to finish these levels(although I've taken a break before the last one). Conclusion, you can shell jump if you practice for an hour a day for about four days.

Toadw1 I don’t know. The timing for just any jumping action like jumping off a spring or note Block, doing a shell jump, and a midair spring jump have all changed. I think you have to do everything later than you used To, and considering how tight triple shell jumps were already, I don’t know if they’re possible.

In the first you can let go of run and jump at almost any time during your jump and then immediately re-press them. In the 2nd you have to hold jump the entire time and let go of run just before the top of your jump. It takes more practice and timing

I could shelljump before seeing this. I actually didnt need any tutorials and learned it on my own. It was pretty easy and learning it was fast. The easy version, I never used. And now Im creating kaizo levels, but not too tight ones. I still want them to be fun, such as precision levels.
