I was at Chicagofest that day, but sadly didn't see the show. I was walking behind the stage when Rick did his soundcheck. Two years later I was in the USAF stationed in Okinawa when Cheap Trick came through on a USO tour. I've been a huge fan (regular size actually) ever since. I try to see them every chance I get. I saw Cheap Trick Back around 1980 in Quincy, IL. at Quincy University. Played on the gym floor with a mountain of speakers and we were on the gym floor also. Always loved Rick Nielsen's solos when he straps on about 50,000 guitars and plays a solo on each one. I'm pretty sure I've never seen any other lead guitarist do that at a live show. I've been a guitarist for over 40 years and I've always had a hard time just having the weight of one Les Paul on me. I don't know how he plays live with 4 or 5 guitars around his shoulder.

I was there! This is indeed a famous show. It was part of Chicagofest and was held on the lawn next to the water treatment plant by Navy Pier. No I'm not kidding- the water treatment plant. I cut school with a friend, we took the bus down to the Pier, and got crap seats. The opening band was called "Cold Chisel" or something. The were pelted off stage with cardboard pizza circles flung like frisbees, People were dumping the pizza on the ground and just winging them. Great show- wild memory.

It's a shame that young people don't get to see this kind of performance anymore. One of the most eye-opening days of my life was back in 04' when a young American Soldier asked me "who plays Stairway to Heaven", I think my knees bucked. I know that some pretty good music reactors have been forced off the 'tube because of CR issues (from doing Eagles reactions). Whoever reads this please understand KZbin is a great route to get people to hear this awesome music. If you let the knowledge grow the money will come.
