What a Race! One of the most enjoyable experiences in a LONG TIME!
SARRC Invitational Challenge (SIC) at Roebling Road, side by side racing with Chuck Mactutus two wide around the entire track in the last 3 laps! So much fun, Hard respectful clean racing! Lots of thumbs up to each other in the middle of the turns
I qualified on pole with my Rossini Racing Products teammate Joe Tobin next to me and Charles Dylan Mactutus, the points leader and King of Roebling Road gridded behind me.
Chuck pushed me into the lead and we broke clear of the field, swapping the lead a few times, but the draft down the main straight makes a breakaway difficult. We were both reluctant to show the moves we had in hand, and we were both figuring out what we needed to do to win. With three laps to go we ended up getting side by side in T1 and drove the entire Roebling Road, in a state of slip, side by side.
In the end I got lucky, and nipped Chuck on the line to win by 19/1,000ths of a second. A huge congrats to Chuck for winning the SARRC Spec Miata Championship, and especially for the way he races, he displays a maturity beyond his years. OPM teammate, Tom Hart finished 3rd.
This is a race I will remember for a long time - will post video shortly

This should be the go to video for racing strategy. Two guys team up, gap the class. One defensive, one offensive. Learning each other’s patterns.

thanks Jeff. This is still one of my favorite race memories. To be side by side for almost 4 laps with someone you trust and respect, it doesn't get any better than this. It took at least a month for that smile to fade, for both of us. I think it was this race that created the partnership between Chuck and I and if you look at Chuck Mactutus's most recent video, there you will see an even better display of team work. Chuck and I working together at VIR Hoosier Super Tour to hold of Preston Pardus and many others that I have so much respect for. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXXdXmuNnqeHl5o

MAD respect for BOTH drivers! You 'touched' on several occasions, but you never 'hit'. Makes you wonder why pro racing can't be this good...

Thank you Mike, it was hard fair racing with total respect for the other driver, and total trust in the other driver. We actually only touched once, on the exit of Turn 6 with Chuck on my outside. Other than that we never touched side by side, although we did bump draft quite a bit!

Danny , This track reminds me of what the old Glen was like before the containment walls. And before the spectator stands occupied the run off fields. I thought that I heard body contact a couple of times which would have been totally frowned upon in my day.

epic and such clean driving - could have turned ugly at any point but the two of you drove like real gentlemen (totally effing crazy, balls to the wall but gentlemen none the less nice to see :-) )

Thanks Riccardo. It could have, but I totally trust Chuck and he obviously trusts me - going around the outside of another driver on these long sweepers takes a LOT of trust because just one small touch can send you into the woods really quickly. So much fun!

Its a really fun track Tiger, you will love it. All about keeping it on the verge of a drift and still managing the tires. Chuck is the King of Roebling and I got really lucky with my win. In June he totally walked me!

Thanks griff420blazer - we had a blast out there and yes, you have to have total trust in your fellow driver to go round the outside of those turns, knowing that he will leave you room! And Chuck Mactutus is a really great wheelman and I totally trust his integrity and sportsmanship!

Thank you Christian for those kind words, and yes that is how we want to race and be raced! Respectful, giving room and avoiding bone headed moves. So much respect for the way Chuck raced me, he is a young kid with a very mature head on his shoulders. And I will remember this one for a long time! Still smiling 2 days later!

What did y'alls lap times look like?? I don't think we had anyone dip into the 23s last weekend and I could only manage a 24.7 before parking it on top of the tires in T6/7 lol

Connor, my pole lap was 1:22.6 and in the race, our first flying lap was again a 1:22.6. Laps 2 and 3 were in the 22's, then we ran 9 laps in the 23's and ran 7 laps in the low 24's when we were going side by side.
